well-first-gigi do you live in wa? someone said you did. i can't pm you i guess

i'm pretty seriously thinking of moving there.

i'm really sick of below zero weather for so long and now that i am riding again...i want to do it all year. 40-70 degrees most of the time seems real nice.

but i have a few concerns:

1.well-docs and support groups and horse barns don't seem to be a concern-i've found lots of them

2. but what about mold? is it a bigger problem there? i'm hearing there really isn't that much more rain there except in a few places. and basically i kinda like the rain. do you do something special to keep the houses mold free? i'm very allergic and reactive to mold.

3. another good thing-ragweed is my second worst allergy and i hear there isn't much of that out there

4. but now in the news this mrsa thing at the beaches-sand and sea and sound water. i read it has been there from the 80's i dealt with mrsa once. had it cut out of me and have never tested to be a carrier. but i sure don't want to do that again. and part of why wa is so attractive to me is all the water to kayak in.

so those of you that live there-do you avoid the beaches and salt water cuz of mrsa?

5. i can't find anything written recently about toxic waste-but i do have a map that shows tons of places. i can't find one for another state-so i don't know if its bad that you have them or good that you know you do and someone charts where they are and how bad they are etc.

do you hear a lot about them being a problem?

i wish i had this map for all the states so i could compare. i think they mark each gas station as a toxic waste spot.

6. rentals...it looks like there are lots and pretty reasonable...do you agree?

i guess those are the questions for now. i'm beginning to think i will come asap now...instead of waiting for spring.

Hi Kayak,

I'll let someone else address the mold issues.

Not much, if any ragweed that I know of, but of course there are airborne pollens/allergens anywhere you might go.

I don't know how long the MRSA thing has been public knowledge, but the news just hit our local paper today. I don't live near the coast, though.

Lots of toxic/hazardous waste here, but that may partly be because the state and federal regulating agencies are very aggressive in seeking them out, assessing fines, and remediating.

And the state laws regarding toxins in the environment tend to more stringent than the federal regulations.

Most older gas stations in any state are hazardous waste sites because of the old-technology underground gas tanks.

Single-walled tanks always leaked, so they are required to yank the tank and replace with double-walled and remediate the site.

Quite a few years back, a lot of old gas stations had to close because they felt it was economically infeasible to replace their tanks and pumps and remediate the soil and groundwater on the site to comply with new regs.

Regarding maps, it would be the toxic/hazardous sites that AREN'T on the maps that would make me more nervous, because it meant no one was doing anything about them!

I won't have a chance to check back for a while, so I hope this helps.

Nutmeg

Ipkayak, Before we moved here from California thirty tears ago, I was told that "if you get sick, you are better off in Washington State than anyplace else". This turned out right for me, because that is where I found Dr. K. who helped me get well.

There is moss growing just about anywhere you go and toxins where people live and pump gasoline and leave tires on the roads. You will get your best answer if you take a week and explore the area yourself. If you are reacting to your environment, it will be similar almost anywhere you go. The recent forest fires in California just let off another cloud of mercury that is being deposited around the world. Yes, the trees absorbed it, but now they burned down and freed the mercury. It is difficult to escape environmental toxins.

I used to be allergic to the trees here - and this is the Evergreen State. Read the Allergie Immun Germany thread and check that therapy out. It will solve many, many problems that not even a move to the most remote island will solve.

There are different forms of allergies: one very potent one is the "emotional allergy!" I learned that from Dr. K. more than ten years ago. It also won't go away until it is treated. AI does it well.

Feel free to write me privately. But do read some of my posts, particularly on AI. It has become, in my mind, the most important cleanup therapy when chronically ill. After that you will be able to live just about anywhere.

Best wishes to you.

Take care.

P.S. Are you a kayaker? I still have our Klepper in the rafters of the garage!

thank you nutmeg and gigi

yes-i am a kayaker or want to be again. only quiet water tho and i like salt water better but i am a little nevous about the mrsa reports in the news about the WA coast and puget sound. i wonder what dr K says about mrsa. will he say if you are healthy you won't get it even if exposed?

it seems there is bad stuff everywhere-great white sharks at cape cod for the first time ever...

i was hoping the air there mostly coming off the ocean would be cleaner than here where we get the coal stuff(and lots of other things i guess) from the mid west

gigi-i don't know how to email you privately

where do you both live? i'm looking at olympia and a little north west of there...whidbey island is a possibility
