I posted this on the MCS group on Lyme Friends, but I had a paint smell in my rental unit, so I looked into this....
And supposedly the only ones that get rid of VOC's from things that "off gas" chemicals are the purifiers that include activated carbon.
If you are trying moreso to get rid of particulates, there are more options, like HEPA, etc.
Certain plants also do a good job of getting rid of VOC's, so that is the route I went, since it was cheaper. And it does seem to help. I posted some links on LF, but for those who don't use that site, just google "NASA house plants clean air" to see which plants in particular are recommended. (NASA did the study).
Plants are used to combat "sick building syndrome." Just don't over-water, because then you'll get mold in the soil.
There is a book about all this called "How to Grow Clean Air." I think that's the title. Check Amazon.com. But instead of buying the book, I just looked up the info online.
