Have any of you had allergy testing done? How involved and expensive is it? What do they do? How accurate is it?
After talking to my LLMD this afternoon she has decided I need to have allergy testing done before it is safe for me to continue my abx. Since we aren't for sure which abx, if it was even the abx at all, that caused the hives and the throat to close up, I need to be tested to get the specifics. She said my reaction was too severe to risk trying anything else.
When I called the allergist's office the earliest appointment they had was November. I left a message with the nurse and am hoping to get in sooner.
I am so frustrated. I am worried I will slide backwards into feeling bad again and will have to start all over, if I can even take the abx that I need. This disease STINKS.

- I know this is hard but I commend your LLMD for her caution. It is too risky.
Will they test you for an allergy to (what antibiotic were you on)? They will probably test for Penicillin as some Rx are related to that.
Are you allergic to garlic? Allicin (from garlic) or Olive Leaf Extract might be a way to manage this while you wait. Of course, it'd be good to ask her about a complementary approach and start extra slow - after you body has calmed down from the allergy attack.
There have to be ways to work with this, it may just take a little time. Good luck. ============
on second thought, November is just 4 weeks away. It might be necessary for you be stay off everything between now and then so the test readings will be unaffected.
As for how they do it, call the office and ask them to send you some literature about what to expect. There are many different kinds of tests. -

- You did say in your previous post that the allergic attack was from zith (azithromycin), correct?
Not all "allergy attacks" are from allergy. With the hives, that is very likely. However, hives can come from liver toxicity, too - and round-about - from an acquired or genetic inability to tolerate a certain classification of medicines/chemicals.
