I was reading the thread about veterinary Bicillin below and was wondering if anyone know if veterinary IV azithromicin is available? It is prohibitively expensive for humans but very effective for lyme, according to Dr. Burrascano, and it would be fantastic if there was an affordable alternative source.

Thanks in advance for your responses

I get little vials of powdered generic zithromax manufactured by Baxter. Ten 500mg vials are $90 and then I buy 250cc bags of saline, mix the zith and inject into the saline and drip for 2.5 hours. it's not so expensive anymore...

Why veterinary?- not like anything wrong with it , but if the main reason is cost try finding generic one in one of overseas pharmacies.

I buy both the zith & saline at a compounding pharmacy. Prices were $2.50/250cc bag for saline and their tubing kits were $3. Shipping that much saline can get expensive. If you can find a compounding pharmacy in your area that might be your best bet.

The NDC code on my saline bags is: 0338-0049-02 and that usually helps the pharmacist track it down.

I've heard that some hospital outpatient pharmacies will sell saline, but none around here would, even with a prescription for saline.

In the past, when I've needed 50cc vials of saline and powdered vials ceftriaxone, the costco pharmacy was able to get saline at ~$1/vial and 60g of rocehphin for ~$300 (sandoz brand). Costco wasn't able to get bags of saline.
