My wife goes to an LLMD, and we posed the question to him can I get Lymes disease through sexual contact with my wife? And he stated to us he feels that you can, and he has seen spouses of Lymes patients who have never got bitten by a tick, or got a bulls-eye rash, having the same symptoms as their spouse. Recently I have been having many of the same symptoms my wife has had, or has, and I have never been bit by a tick. My question is is their more people out there getting Lymes disease through sexual contact?

I have read in several places that it can be sexually transmitted.
However, even if you have it, how would you really prove how you got it?
Since you both live your lives in the same area, you too could have been bitten by a tick and not even know it. I never knew I had been bitten by a tick, and never got a rash from it.
We have no idea how long my husband has had Lyme, because he didnt' get sick until they shut down his immune system several times for some tests.
Dr. feels his immune system was keeping it at bay, so he wasn't exhibiting symptoms.
And truly, he could have contracted it from a tick or from me, as I've had it 25 years. We'll never really know.
I would simply be evaluated and treated if you are having symptoms. You'll never prove how you got it.

on this board, it's been said BOTH ways! some spouses do NOT have it or symptoms; others do.
your kids could get CONGENITAL LYME during pregnancy depending on long your wife has had this.

Minor but first point - it is Lyme, not Lymes. As for sexual transmission, it seems more likely that it is possible than not. There is no agreed to position on this topic at this time, but most of the Lyme doctors I have spoken with feel it is absolutely possible and likely. Lyme is a cousin of syphilis.

Yes, I msot defintely think it can. Wehen I first met Dr. B on Long Isalnd years ago he sat my husband down and said he seriously thought it could be transmitted sexually. Through many support groups I joined I did find one couple who had the male's semen tested and they said it tested positive. So from my point of view if one of the world's most renouned docs for Lyme says it can I beleive him. I think many people may be getting it this way.
We surely know it can be passed onto children thorugh childbirth. Docs have told me they have found it in placentas and then there is also the breastmilk theroy. I belive at least one of my son's did get it through me through the birthing process and Dr. J beleives so too. My entire family has it and all coinfections. I don't think all of us were bitten.

I met someone in San Diego that is being treated aggressively for Lyme. His wife recently tested very positive. He has no doubt in his mind that she got it from him.
As one person said, if Syphilis can be sexually transmitted, why not this bacteria?

My husband of almost 11 years did not start getting symptoms until a little over a year ago. No tick bite that he has ever noticed. No rash. Nothing. Now he has Lyme disease.
My two youngest children ages 8 and 6 have Lyme disease. No tick bite that we have ever seen..no rash. They are now chronic late stage neuro.
I have had Lyme disease at least 21 years undiagnosed.
My LLMD is certain that it is transmitted sexually and congenitally.

Just be smart and wear protection. Reduce exposure as safely and as reasonably as you and your partner are willing to agree upon.
Risks are risks. We still kiss and touch, but I always use a condom.
Some people here on Lymenet have stated they will not touch their partner at all -- in any form, which I find a little disturbing, but if that's what they agree upon, then that's that.
Others will abstain from kissing and sex entirely, but hug and such. People get creative.

Yes, CWD can be transferred with all body fluids. Touch your mouth, then the table in front of you, and the next fellow who comes by can pick it up. It also survives for quite a while, even in the sunshine, for about 72 hours. It cannot be shipped from one lab to another.
But --- the person picking it up from the table where someone left it may have a fully functioning immune system and therefore may not get ill. A high percentage of the population anywhere is infected, but not ill.
But what happens along the way as an infected person gets older, accumulates more toxins the very normal way called aging, or goes through a stressful life event?
Viruses can be spread by droplets in the air.

Do you have a link or something to show us where you got this information regarding the CWD form being in all body fluids? Was there a study done showing this?
I am aware semen, breastmilk and urine can test positive by PCR, but I have not heard of it being detected in saliva.
And I'm not sure how anyone could prove that coming in contact with that saliva could cause someone to have active bb. That would have been a separate study?

Cell Wall Deficient, same as "L form" I think.
I wouldn't doubt syphilis could be spread through blood too....I tried looking to see if the sores were the only way it was spread, and didn't see any clear answer on that in what I was reading.

Okay....here is one of the only sites I found that does list semen and blood for syphilis transmission. I left out the first half of the sentence because it might be too graphic for children.
"...and kissing can also spread syphilis if these activities involve direct contact with sores, lesions, semen or blood. Body fluids such as semen and blood are highly contagious for up to two years in an untreated person.
Because sexual contact involves friction, syphilis bacteria can enter the body through tiny breaks in skin or through delicate mucous membranes."

The info I posted is available on tape. I attended a Klinghardt seminar as I do several times a year, this one several years ago, and the research scientist doing this work (and a lot more) was a speaker for several hours. That person also has testified before Congress on mercury research.
I am not at liberty to give you names, etc.
You can purchase the recordings and listen to every word spoken during this 3-day event. It covered more than Lyme, because Lyme is never the only problem causing Lyme Disease as we know it.
