First of all, this message board is wonderful,

and I really enjoy reading all the wealth of

informatin and input from educated members. I'm

a newbie and I'm still trying to educate myself

on lyme.

I started feeling ill early this summer, and I

went to many doctors before finally seeing an

LLMD and getting a positive lyme test. My

symptoms were weakness, shaky, headaches, dizzy,

tingling, brain fog, to name a few as well as

some joint pain, but the joint pain was not

significant.

I first saw my dr in mid August and he started

me on doxy and ceftin. At my last visit (2

weeks ago), I saw some improvement and overall

felt a bit better, but then a few new symptoms

started to appear like heart palps, chest pains,

and severe air hunger, and some foot pain. I

saw a cardiologist last week and had a major

heart work up, and apparently my heart is fine.

My LLMD now suspects Bart and added Rifampin

which I started last Wed. Is it strange that

I had new symptoms appear after treatment?

I began the Rifampin Wednesday (and I'm still on

doxy and ceftin) and for the past 3 days all my

symptoms are

much worse and I vomitted last night. My air

hunger is horrible! What is

going on? I also believe I have a yeast

infection in my mouth!

Sorry this is so long, please let me know if you

have any thoughts.

HI there!!! Welcome!!!

It's not strange at all that you are getting new symptoms. Happens all the time. Not sure I can explain why that happens though!!

Rifampin is really rough stuff. Don't overdo. Tell your dr if things get any worse.

Is your dr giving you something to protect you from yeast? Are you taking a probiotic?

Everyone in treatment should be taking a probiotic like Theralac. ( www.theralac.com )

Many drs prescribe Nystatin to take as a preventative. The tablets are the best, as the liquid contains sugar and the powder is nasty.

Also, you may want to call your dr and tell him/her that you have yeast and ask for Diflucan.

hope that helps!! [Smile]

Hi Txgirl,

Welcome to LN!! This is a wonderful forum...glad you've found us!

Are you taking probiotics? Many like Theralac (what my LLMD recommended).

Doxy often makes people pretty nauseous, possibly the combination of the meds is causing it?

If you are having a lot of vomiting, I would call the LLMD and tell him/her. They would have a better idea of what's going on.

I'm sorry you are feeling so rough right now, please keep us posted.

Take care,
Ocean

Welcome! Sorry you have to be here too. I don't think what you are describing is at all unusual.

You could be having a herx due to die-off. You may want to check with your LLMD to see if you can lower the dose a bit and ramp up more slowly.

It could also be babesia, another co-infection coming out. That one causes terrible air hunger.

I had yeast issues in my mouth and had to treat with the liquid nystatin for a week, even though it does contain sugar.

My LLMD said that the powder tasted too bad to use and the pills wouldn't help the mouth.

After a week on that I then took the nystatin pills to keep yeast in check.

Be careful with your diet --no sugar, low carbs - will help to keep yeast in check.

And yes, a good probiotic will help as well.

Best wishes.

I'm glad you have some answers. I don't have any answers as I have yet to start treatment, but it seems from reading that what you describe isn't unusual.

Hello txgirl. Many need to do something to detox

and a lot suggest charcoal caps. And prevent yeast.

I take nystatin 4 times a day. It is very common to

get worse before getting better. I think it depends

on how long you have had it before discovery. But

everyone is different. I have done my meds

singly so far, so I do not know what it feels

like to take so many at once. I can't help there.

Epsom salts soaks helped me so much in the

beginning herxes. I did them hot as I could. As I

progressed in treatment I found the water was

getting hotter and hotter. Had to crank it down.

Meaning Treatment was working. Electrolyte

replacement can be very helpful for herxes caused

by cell loss. You can get mixes or premixed. Need

to do something to keep the bowl working. I take

a script of probiotic. Sorry you are here but glad you found some help.

Thank you all for the helpful information.

appreciate it.

I am taking probiotics, but I will try the

Theralac. My llmd is having me taking diflucan

once a week, but it did not seem to prevent the

yeast. I need to stick to the sugar free, yeast

free diet but its so hard. I've already lost

weight and I don't need to lose any more

weight. I'll ask for the Nyastin.

I did fine on the ceftin and doxy but now adding

the Rifampin to the mix is just making me so

sick.

Thanks again!

Can you cut back on the Rif for a little bit? Maybe cut the pills in half and slowly ramp up?

I have a call into my dr today, and I'll ask if

he can prescribe me a lower dose. I'm on 300mg o

f Rifampin and supposed to increase to 600

soon!

They are capsules so I can't cut them in half.

Hi txgirl09,

I'm a Texas girl too! WELCOME!

Question for you... Did your doc give you a Bart test? Reason I ask is that I'm wondering why your doc suspects Bart, based on the sx's you gave. Is there a reason?

Not sure why you can't take Diflucan more than once per week to get yeast under control, as I certainly did. Just be sure to follow it up a couple hours afterward with loads of acidophilus and watch that sugar / starch intake.

Careful using too many supplements; they get expensive and when I look back on my treatment years, the vast majority were a huge waste of money. One that isn't a waste of money is a good quality Magnesium supp. If you have muscle twitches, myoclonus or other neuro sx's such as these, Mg will help greatly to control them. Most people use a pill form, but I'm in love with the transdermal Mg oil form (MgCl); works in 10 minutes and cuts down on the challenge of how long to wait before / after abx dose, etc. I use half the dose, mixed with water, once per day (sometimes every other day). If you decide to use this and since you have arrythmias (I did too), do NOT use full dose and DO dilute it with water.

Again, WELCOME and ya'll come back, ya hear!

Txgirl,

Have you been tested for heavy metals? Do you have amalgam fillings (the silver fillings) in your mouth? MANY times even without abx and Lyme, people will have a real problem with candida because of the metal...candida 'cushions' the metals from hurting tissue/cells from what I've read.

I'm sorry you having such a tough time with the yeast. Diet is very important, but I also often have trouble following it.

Take care,

Ocean

I also tried reducing the Rifampin ( with dr's permission ) I just poured out part of the capsule.

I agree that one Diflucan tablet per week won't necessarily deter the yeasty beasties.
