I haven't had a cold in the over 2 years that I've been sick. Is this good news or bad?

I was never really one to get them before Lyme. Every year I'd get one whopper that would wipe me out for over a week and then maybe 1 or 2 stuffy noses that would keep me home from work for a day or so. Nothing too bad.

For the last 3 days I've had a stuffy head, sneezing, coughing, aches. Nothing too serious, but noticeable for sure.

I should mention that the only difference between now and the previous years is that I've been taking a break from abx since July. Could it be that my immune system is waking up or is that that I'm not fighting off cold bacterial without the abx?

Achooooo!

Me too! Good to see you again CT. I haven't had a cold since getting sick from mono over two years ago.

I want to believe it's a good sign this time. My lyme symptoms have eased up the past few months so perhaps it's a spike in immune system response.

I guess that I won't know for sure until I kick the cold and see what happens.

Good luck.

I also haven't had colds for 4 years but this year I get throat problems whenever I see other people.
I better stay at home.
Probably this is a different virus this year, or the swine flu.

I found something what helps me:
Spray X-Lear in your nose immediately after you
meet a sick person
and I always chew jalapenos in vinegar from Publix when I am out. I take a little box with me.
I also rinse my throat with hot salt water and put some iodine on my wrist ( was a post on lymenet).

This helped me so far.

I posted about this in August. I came down with a cold/flu type thing. First time in a really long time. I was at the freaking beach with a cold! LOL. It lasted for 8 to 10ish days.

Sounds like a good thing. Funny Huh. I would hit it with some lauricidin, vinegar, and a hot toddy never killed anyone. Unless they had underlying health issues. Just kidding, that flu I'm talking bout.

OK, I have the flu now and thought it was good news too since I could TELL I was sick.

Is this good news?

Thanks all for your comments.

Has anyone actually discussed this issue with their LLMD? I'm curious to know what they would say about this.

I never thought I'd be excited to have a cold, but I am. At least it's something different and something tells me it's a good thing.

Thanks!

Me too. I used to get sinus and throat infections when I came down with this and then nothing for 2 years.

Then all of a sudden last weekend after adding low dose flagyl I got a stuffed nose and sinus infection and a cough.

I couldnt believe it. I have always found it really strang that I stopped getting such things as even the healthiest people come down with colds and flu. They just get over it quicker.

It has felt like my immune system has been switched off or parts or it have been de activated. I think its really positive. I stopped the flagyl and it cleared up. That was only on a half a flagyl twice daily for 2 days.

I am doing a quarter of a pill now.

This could all point to a heavy parasitic co-infection in my case.

I actually have the same question....I started a new regimen recently and thought I was having a flu-like herx....

Now it seems according to the nurse in my doctor's office that I might have H1N1 (not surprising as many around me have it)....watery eyes, sore/itchy/burning throat, unproductive cough, and fatigue...

I,like you, haven't been sick with really anything else for the five years I've been sick with lyme disease...(fyi, I stopped all abx and antivirals last fall)....

I hope, like you, that it means my immune system ISN'T in overdrive and is actually going back to normal....

Who knows...

I seem to recall that Sixgoofykids got several colds as she was getting well...maybe I'm remembering that wrong....

@Bugg... your symptoms describe mine exactly. Interesting.

Anyone else talk to their LLMD about this? It's interesting to hear all of your specific experiences, but I'm curious to hear what a doctor thinks. I'm not sick enough to go see mine right now to inquire and I don't have a regular appointment scheduled until November.

Thanks!!
