I have a 5 month old grand daughter. Want her to stay around. The family is struggling with what to do about the vaccine.

I have read some of the posts especially where Influenzium or something close to that spelling is ok for infants.

I have also offered to have her with me instead of at day care..But who can prevent every contact..Even the mail or money could be contaminated if this spreads everywhere?

What are others trying to do? And the mom is breast feeding,,if she gets the vaccine would it protect the baby..or be dangerous?

I got a nasty dose last year after getting the shot. I went into bronchitis and then pneumonia. So I am on the fence at to even consider this myself..

What is the vote on the pneumonia shot? Heard somewhere that it might protect us if we get H1N1..In that pneumonia is to blame for many deaths.

Any thoughts? lymemomtooo

I think you have few responses since no one here knows what to tell you!!! You have a tough issue there!

I know I'm not taking either vaccine myself.

I called the office of Dr. J. (lyme pediatrician). He is recommending the regular seasonal flu vaccine as well as the H1N1 vaccine for his lyme patients (at least this is what the office staff told me).

However, as far as I know, children under 6 months old are not supposed to receive any flu shots at all.

lymers is right, the flu vaccine is not recommended for children under 6months.

If you are able to care for the child instead of sending her to daycare that would greatly reduce her risk of developing any contagious illnesses this winter.

Daycare babies pick up everything! Besides the flu (seasonal types A & B and the H1N1, you can get all three remember) she will also be exposed to every other virus in the community (croup, RSV, and Rotovirus just to name a few).

Child care providers try to do their best to prevent the spread of illness but children are often contagious before they show any symptoms. So basically, despite their best efforts, the kids will get sick.

Ideally, all the family members and child care providers should get the flu vaccines to help protect the baby.

When it comes to homeopathic, naturopathic, supplements to help prevent or treat the flu I don't know if anything has been tested and proven safe in infants.

lymemomtoo, if you are considering Influenzinum, this is what one of my books says for administering homeopathic remedies to infants:

"For infants, dissolve the remedy in a couple teaspoons of water and place a few drops on the tongue."

The safety of homeopathic medicines for animals and people of all ages is historic.
