I went to my LLMD on Wed and they want me to start Coartem tonight for 5days then go off for 7 days then go back on for 5days. I tried to do research on this drug and haven't found much.
Anybody here taken Coartem and if so was the results good. Also I want to make sure it doesn't interact with the meds I am on. Any help would be appreciated.
I am on IV doxy, xanax, prilosec, tylenol, benedryl, probiotics, lemon juice, nystatin, diflucan.

There is not much info. available on this med. but in this link Sammy gives pretty much what is on the insert.
The US name is Coertem and European name is Riamet.
Hope this helps.
I've made significant progress with this med.. I stopped most meds. when doing this. It stays in your system for a long time so I remained off most everything for about 10 days or so.
Good Luck. BTW, it was very tolerable especially when compared to other meds..

Hi Mrs.Scampi. Don't be afraid to try the Coartem. It was not hard to tolerate. I did two rounds of it back in Sept, 3 days each.
It made me feel more tired than usual but that lifted about a day after I finished the pulse. It did help reduce my symptoms temporarily but unfortunately they came roaring back after a couple days.
As for the drug interactions, check with your doctor and pharmacist. They will be able to clarify that for you. I would be sure to ask about the diflucan, it interacts with many medications.
You should also have been given specific instructions on how to take the medication. It needs to be taken with food and the doses need to be taken at specific time intervals.
Good luck I hope that it works well for you.
