I was told that at the beginning but had another nurse say it doesn't have to be room temperature but that it's just more comfortable for the patients that way.
I used to walk around with the bags under my shirt to help warm them up.

It will break down if it isn't refrigerated. If the color is NOT amber, but reddish, it's gone bad. It doesn't seem to be toxic, but it's lost it's potency.
My friend didn't know this and she was infusing for months with bad roceph. (she's fighting with the pharmacy who sold it for improper labeling)
Also, she was told that if it's too cold when it's infused, it can cause very serious heart problems. It can be quite a shock to the hear to have a liquid 50 colder than the body hit it.
I don't know how dangerous it would actually be, but I wouldn't take a chance.

My pharmacy told me that premixed Rocephin can be kept at room temp for 3 days, refrigerated for 2wks, and frozen for 6mo.
If you do not store it properly it will lose its effectiveness.
I also always try to warm the Rocephin prior to infusion. I've been told that it will take longer to infuse if it is cold. Also, as James mentioned it is hard on the body.
