Head felt like it was gonna explode for almost a week with some personality changes. Mostly Crying jags, but the "I want my mommy type"
Also Anxiety that had me doing flip flops on the bed. Benzos did nothing but make me yawn.
Dr. Says I have Cerebritis. WBC count up, low grade fever, Elevated sed rate too. Many many labs pending. They drew 15 tubes in all. I'm impressed.
Waiting for Neurologist and I'd doc.
BP 75/57 this am. Never had that. Now getting fluids.
At least I have so hard numbers besides Somatic complaints.
Gave me Fiorocet and did not much for head pain.
Resident says perhaps abx and steroid combo, but chiefs will make final call.
I'm in a Hospital that I have never been to, so no pulling old records and rushing to judgement. Also, this is a teaching hospital, another plus, I think.
On my Blackberry so hard to type. Please send me your prayers.

I hope they find something that can be treated, you seem to have more than typical Lyme symptoms going on.
Good Luck in the hospital.

Please take this time to call and schedule an LLMD appointment for when you get out.
Sorry but I do not have much confidence in any hospital (especially teaching hospitals) that you will get adequate treatment and follow-up.
Maybe a few days of antibiotics if you are lucky and then they will say you are cured etc.
Hubby has been there and done that in way too many hospitals in multiple states -- Virginia, New York, Florida, Kansas, Indiana, Pennsylvania. And that does not include the ER visits in Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina.
Please update when you are able.
Will be praying for you.
And I would try to get a SPECT scan done if at all possible.

Gary,
DON'T LET THEM GIVE YOU STEROIDS, UNLESS IT'S REALLY LIFE-THREATENING!! (Sorry to "yell", just concerned for you). I"m
sure that you know how that can make Lyme almost untreatable. Of course, the ducks at the hospital don't know that, but you do.
Prayers for your recovery. And Seiburt is right, make an LLMD appointment for as soon as you get out. They would have a
better understanding of how to treat you appropriately.

Glad that you could post this from your blackberry altho it sux butt where you are right now. I think depending on if they believe Lyme causes the problems you are having---then you might get appropriate treatment.
If not, they will be puzzled, scratch their heads, and like the teaching university hospital cardiologist said to me--eat more potato chips (i.e. increase salt intake) and you'll be fine. If anything, IV fluids might restore balance for now until you get to an LLMD. Best wishes to you!

Fourth time repeated: No steroids, unless life threatening. Can they / you call an LLMD to consult with now / as soon as possible?

Know how you feel, Gary. I just got out of the hospital this past Sunday after being in 5 days. My appendix (sp) ruptured a week before and it took me that long to realize I didn't have the flu as I originally thought.
Hang in there, friend. We know how tough it is.

Thanks for the update, feelfit. I hope Gary knows we're all here for him - he isn't alone.
Gosh, Ping - that's pretty awful - so glad you are okay! Did they test you for flu? I'm thinking there is a tendency for the virus to go into the appendix so I wouldn't automatically rule out a connection there....

Thanks also to TC and TF!
I was never so miserable in my life. The ruptured append. presented slightly different in me than in most and the surgeon who drew my case at the hospital was stunned that not only was I alive after a week, but that I got in my car and drove 2 hours to my PCP.
It was all a very close call; bags and bags of IV Zosin and Clinidamycin (sp) and Morphine out the waz. Then, they changed to Vancomycin... I watched the nurse hang the Vanc. and said "What's wrong". She said, "The doctor will be right in to speak with you". (Sort of knew I was toast then.) Doc said, "We keep culturing Enterococcus fecalis from your drain and if we can't get that remedied, it's real trouble".... Long story short, got it under control, was released and drove myself home.
I don't think I've ever hurt so bad in my entire life; not from Lyme, or anything else. I've never been shot before (much to the disappointment of more than a few people, I'm sure), but I have a hunch of what a gut shot feels like now. OMG!
I sure hope the Holidays go a lot smoother for all of us. Trying very hard to be positive. (Haven't seen my portion of the hospital bill / med charges yet.)
Hang in there Gary and everybody else!

Gary,
I hope that you are able to get help!!! You've been through a lot, just know that we are all pulling for ya!!! Hang in there and update when you can.
Ping,
You poor thing, my appendix also ruptured back in 2000. It hurt extremely badly, but when I'm in pain, I go into my own little world, and just concentrate on breathing (I did this during childbirth too). The doc's kept saying they didn't know what it was. I had developed peritonitis and I literally could not take a deep breath. I thought I was going to die!
Only when my temp went up to 104.5 (from 99 when I first arrived 15 hours before) did they do anything, they wouldn't give me pain meds during those 15 hours because they said it may 'cover up' what was wrong with me!!! After the surgery, the surgeon blamed it on me, saying that I wasn't 'acting' like I was in a lot of pain like most people with appendicitis...
I was a 21 year old college student and my mom was livid when he said that. Goodness people, I later learned in nursing school that there are lots of ways for a patient to show that they are in pain besides complaining...can't imagine what my bp must have been!
Only 'good' thing about this was that it made labor that much easier later on...except my posterior child...that was pretty rough!
I feel for you and please try to take it easy. I know I felt really happy for a few weeks after my surgery, I think the IV abx and oral cipro was kicking some butt, but I didn't know I had Lyme then! I hope you heal quickly and void of complications

Ocean,
What you describe happening to you is very much like what happened to me!
I couldn't take a deep breath either and felt like I was in labor for 5 days (puffing/shallow breathing). Then, when I got to my PCP, the ******* tried to make me feel stupid and blame it on me, which I didn't buy. (I came back with some smart-assed answer that shut him down.)
Once the CT was done, then everyone, esp. the surgeon on call was astonished and gave me anything I wanted. The surgeon never disbelieved me in any way; he was just so surprised at how in the world I made as long as I did.
I've got a follow-up with the surgeon on the 12th, then, with the PCP later that day. Needless to say, I'm keeping the surgeon and dropping the PCP like the turd he is. Shame on him.
I completely understand, Ocean.
May all of us have better times ahead!

Gary,
Sorry all this is still going on. If they do decide on steroids, which you may need to calm your system down, make sure they are administered in tandem with antibiotics. LLMDS do use this type of protocol, and I am one that benefited from it. I know of others as well, but the steroid use is controlled with the antibiotics. Be well.
