I have noticed the past two nights that during dinner my 5 year old son has had a few red blotches on his face that would come and go in different spots within minutes. It was not terribly noticeable, but my husband and I both did notice it. It lasted for about 1/2 hour and then went away.

He had pepperoni/olive pizza both nights (tonight was leftovers). He also takes his meds with dinner (Mepron, biaxin and bactrim). I am wondering if he had some type of allergic reaction. I didn't notice this in the morning with his meds (but plan to watch closely tomorrow) so I'm wondering if it could be the pizza. He has only recently started liking pepperoni, so I wonder if that's it.

Should I have benedryl available just in case when I give him his meds? Would it do any good?

Has anyone had this type of reaction?

Thanks.

Let's hope if it has to be an allergic reaction.. it is to the meds and NOT to the pizza!

Heaven forbid such a young one would have that horrible thing happen to them! I can't live without my occasional Pizza Hut pizza.

You said.. "Should I have benedryl available just in case when I give him his meds? Would it do any good?"

I suggest everyone should keep it on hand in the event of an allergic reaction. It could help save a life.

It is one of the first things they administer in the ER for allergic reactions. If you are delayed getting to the ER... like we are almost an hour away from the hospital by ambulance...

Once they FIND us out here...

It would be very important to have.

Hi Tincup,

Thanks so much for your response. It's good to know that about benedryl...I did have it ready when I gave the meds yesterday and it I didn't notice the blotches on him as much.

However, today I started noticing them again on his neck and other parts of his head today so I don't know what is going on. Maybe its normal flushing but seems like something new. I am going to try stopping one med at a time for a day or two to see if anything changes.

Thanks again,

tickbattler
