Is it lyme disease or one of the coinfections that is causing food to get stuck when I swallow?
It seems to be getting worse.

A friend of mine had swallowing problems with enterovirus. She was basically eating oatmeal. See: www.enterovirusfoundation.org
She is much better with enterovirus treatment (oxymatrine).

Thanks! I'll go check it out.
Lately I even choke on water.

Same. There are a couple of us here having this problem. Small, well chewed bites help as well as a small sip of water after to help things go down.
Sorry, no idea what the cause is as far as Lyme and Co's go.
Hang in there friend, feelfit

I had this problem for several years. I was also choking on water. My throat always felt like it had a big lump in it. Doxyclycline helped a lot. Every once in awhile it comes back but never as bad as it was.
Throat swelling can be from allergies as well. Check out food allergies (lyme seems to make us much more prone to them). Also look around for mold or anything in your house that might be causing an allergic reaction.
If you look in the archives, you'll see that lots of people have had this problem. I'm sorry you have to deal with it. It is annoying and frightening but it does get better with treatment.

Look in Treepatrol's post for Newbies here in Medical. Then in that post search for 'Cranial Nerves' posted by Tincup.
When I started treatment within a couple of weeks I developed swallowing problems.
It's directly related to the cranial nerve damage we sustain from Lyme & Co.
Mine has improved significantly.

I used to have severe swallowing issues. It was miserable. It's gotten better, but it will come up again with flare times. Some say Babesia causes it.

Yes, I had this. It was very frightening for me and my family. Mine was mostly with taking pills but I did get choked on liquids a lot.
Never had a problem with food which I think is strange.
It's better now and I haven't had a problem now for a few months. What a relief. It can get better with treatment.

Yes, it was lyme for me. I guess I should have clarified that when I said I got better with treatment meaning lyme treatment.
I had neck surgery in 2003 and had thought it had something to do with that. I never associated it with lyme till it got better when I got better.
