So I have gone to the max with doses of neurontin and elavil (had allergic reaction to tramadol) and I am still in almost intolerable pain. What else do people do? I cannot take codeine- related things: allergic to them as well as Fentanyl patches. Anybody else with this level of pain? What do I do?

One thing to do is to try to reduce the level of inflammation.

Fish oil
Magnesium
Systemic enzymes
Antioxidants

Sublingual B vitamins reduced nerve pain for me.

The use of antidepressants, like Ativan, in combination with pain meds, has been shown to increase the effectiveness of the pain medication in some patients.

Okay, perhaps you need to increase the dosages?

Also, I've read that neurotoxins from the dead Lyme bacteria can cause symptoms.
The liver needs the building blocks for glutathione production, in order to detox neurotoxins.

Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum has many suggestions to relieve pain in his book, Pain Free 1-2-3.

The book notes are at his site, EndFatigue.com

Clarification. I am taking anti oxidants, fish oil, NAC, ALA, Milk Thistle, sublingual B, Don't know why my post went up twice. I am at the maximum dose of Neurontin (3600 mg/day) and am taking Elavil (antidepressant) to enhance the Neurontin. It is all still not working. I will check out the pain links. My LLMD feels that this is a die-off that was triggered by an IV Glutathione injection 2 weeks ago. I keep hoping it will end soon, but in the meantime...

Ohh....IV glutathione.

I'm not sure how that could trigger a die-off.
The suppositories are on my list of things to try.

What type of pain is it?

I, too, am allergic to all codeine-related meds, even synthetic codeine, as well as morphine and dilaudid.

Makes pain management a challenge.

My pain was mostly nerve-related, and I tried both elavil and neurontin with no luck.

Actually felt better once I got off of both of those meds.

There are a few other meds like those you could try - I can't think of the names at the moment. I tried a few with no luck.

What did seem to help to a degree was Cymbalta.

Also, b-12 injections, over times, seemed to help.

Darvocet, ultracet... while not necessarily for nerve pain, were in my arsenal against pain (I had some specific pain that was not nerve-related, and these meds helped take the edge off of that).

Maybe if you say what type of pain it is, it will jog my memory as to what I've used in the past, since we have similar allergies.

Hoping you find relief soon.

Find a pain-relief specialist. They will help you find something that works for you. There are other opiates available that most people who have a bad reaction to codeine seem to tolorate well, high end NSAIDs, muscle relaxants and others.

I take oxycodone 3 times a day with fentanyl patches... I know you said you were allergic to the fentanyl. B12 shots help and so do hot baths

For my pain I take Ultram ER 300 mg and the generic, tramadol, for breakthrough pain. I was still in pain, but only occasionally intolerable.

Another thing that definitely helps my pain is mag. shots. Hypnosis helped me, too.
