Can anyone confirm whether or not eczema (skin condition) is a DEFINITIVE Lyme symptom?
Met a relative over the holidays that stated you do NOT have Lyme unless you have chronic eczema? Is this accurate?
I have an equivocal Igenex test result (12 bands BEFORE tx) and have NEVER had eczema - my symptoms are all neurological and fairly serious: burning skin neuropathy, single ear tinnitus and transient blurry vision.
I that know many people will attribute all sorts of symptoms to Lyme and I am NOT in this camp
Thanks for any feedback.

I have never heard anyone say eczema was a symptom you must have to have chronic Lyme. Lyme has very different presentations in different people.
I would not say that all who have eczema have Lyme, and I also would not say that all who have Lyme have eczema. Someone with Lyme may have eczema.

I never heard eczema was a definitive lyme symptom either.
As an aside, my four children with lyme all have eczema.

I've done fairly extensive research on the net about Lyme and have NEVER seen a eczema/lyme connection.
The relative that told me this acted rather 'matter of factly' about this, yet they do about everything BTW, this person exhibits NO Lyme specific symptoms.
Told this person I have supporting bloodwork and they flatly said "No eczema, no Lyme" Since I am NOT certain I have Lyme, I didn't challenge them.
However, I do have painful neuropathy, tinnitus and a few other neuro problems which I've had for 3 long years now...I tend to think I just have 'damage' from some infection that came and went and it could have been Lyme or something else?
I did exhibit 12 bands (either + or IND) on my Igenex test last year) but I'm just hesitant to undergo Lyme tx again because of expense and the uncertain dx?
Don't mean to wander off the subject, would sure like to find relief from the nerve pain in 2010? I take Gabapentin, not very effective.
Kindest Regards,
MB

I would say you have a case of the Uninformed Relative Who Acts As If They Know All.
I too have a severe case of this.
There is no arguing with my relative - she always knows best, and is always right. Does that sound familiar?
I have never seen eczema as the definitive Lyme symptom, in fact - I would say that there is *not* a definitive Lyme symptom.
