Does anyone know anything about this illness. Do a lot of lyme people have it? Is it routinely tested for? I just read an article that scared me. Jasek

There is a website www.celiac.com that is excellent on this subject.

My LLMD routinely tests for it, but I doubt all of them do. I was tested for it before we figured out I had Lyme.

Celiac is more of an condition, rather than an illness like infection, etc. And it can be controlled. That's the good news.

Information, education, action can replace fear. Many hear are helped by adhering to a gluten-free diet. Most LLMDs strongly suggest it as it can be important even when true celiac may not be diagnosed.

Gluten can affect pain, brain function, food absorption . . . the list goes on. It's easy just not to eat it. Plenty of non-gluten whole grains to enjoy but skip the sugary substitutes. Just because something is gluten-free does not mean it's healthful.

Good non-gluten WHOLE grains include quinoa, buckwheat (really a legume), wild rice (really a grass), all kinds of brown, red and black rices . . . millet . . . amararyth (sp?).

Best in moderation with lots of bright colored veggies and fruits like dark berries - good proteins and good fats.
