I seem to remember seeing some posts in the past (maybe even two years past) regarding the brand name being better than generic. My husband was on generic IV flagyl and didn't have any problems with it.

Were you on the brand flagyl first? Or is it just the flagyl in general making you loopy?

I was on the generic last week. I was supposed to take 500 mg 3x per day. After 5 days, I had to stop taking it because my fingers, toes, hands and leg went completely numb. According to the medication insert, this is a side effect but I had read that this side effect mostly happens after long term treatment. It happened to me after 5 days. Also, I was very tipsy and dizzy on this medicine. I was wondering the same thing as jpsmom. Also, was wondering if perhaps my reaction to the med was due to the dosage...maybe I'd have had better success with lower amount.

whats crazy for me now that I know how it is to be on IV meds is that the amount of dosing that you (well I ) can handle via IV is so much more than oral.

I could handle 750mg of IV flagyl two times a day and it was like taking nothing. I am sure I could take more. Nothing meaning no big herx and no side affects and just felt better..

On Orals. I take a 250 mg pill and i feel like i am about to die. i am nauseaus and sick and feel just horrible within a couple hours of taking it and feel like i just can not tolerate it or take more.

My docs say it is a herx. How do i believe that when I can take so much of that same med via IV without any of that response at all/??

I am so confused and frustatrated about this subject and no professionals can answer me as to why this is happening.

They want to wean me to orals. That is why the subject keeps coming up. I to do not want to go back to suffering.. when I can treat so smoothly on any amounts and effectively on IVS.

I have now done 3 different abx on IV and have done them via Oral too and all the same story.

Is this how others react? I am sure this is not just me?

Springshowers, i have the extreme nausea on the generic oral for Flagyl. Same thing with Zith.

I've never done IV...the cost is formiddable for me.

However, i asked my LLMD for Zofran so i try the Flagyl again. Herx'ing or side effects from hitting the intestines hard? I dont know. My stool has cloudy liquid in it--drops of it just coming out ever time i go.

The cloudy liquid IS bacterial die-off. This is both good and bad--because the good bacteria are dying too. I now take 3 diff probiotics daily.

IV doesnt impact the intestinal flora the same way, that's why you can probably tolerate it better.
