My hair has definitely changed texture and I wondered about that. It gets very dull and lifeless. It's worse when my symptoms are worse!

I had terrible hair when sick. My hair is normally thick and shiny. Very thick.
When I was sick it fell out and what was left broke off.
With treatment, my old hair is back.
All I could do was leave it alone .... I used high quality salon products, only washed it twice per week (which is feasible with high quality products), and brushed it as little as possible. It helped, but didn't fix the problem.

Mine has been drier since lyme too. I attribute it to thyroid issues from the lyme though.

It's gone from an uncombable super-thick and curly, to thin with hollow spots and a dry straw-like texture. So I got that going for me. Yes, indeed, I'm a catch.

Randi, I was using Pureology (very $$$) or Alterna. Right now I'm using Aveda. I like to switch around.
Yes, I have curly, unruly hair that I straighten half the time, so I have to use conditioner. I seldom blew it dry straight when I was sick because of breakage issues.
If I use inexpensive shampoos/conditioners, I have to wash daily. It's like they make your hair attract dirt.

My hair is wrecked. So I buzzed it off and dyed the remainder purple. So it's pretty easy maintenance now. Just get out the clippers every three or four weeks, and add touch up the dye when needed.
I figure if my hair is going to rebel on me, I'll show it rebellion!
Ironically, keeping it super-short has really helped. The only hair I've got is newly grown, so it's not gotten brittle and full of split-ends.
And purple. Who doesn't like purple?

Yes, it's thin and fine now, and it's falling out in various places. Suddenly it's started growing back though.

Gosh - there's an idea - some of us could dye what's left of our hair lime green, and THEN watch us educate!
Only problem, I'm currently allergic to everything, so no hair dye. Maybe when I'm improved...

I love the purple hair idea. But then I'd have other issues because my husband would either die of a heart attack or kick me out, lol.
But yeah, my hair has changed too. I attributed it to childbirth because after my 2nd child my hair started falling out and got brittle, dry and strawlike in texture.
I figured something else was going on when I was still losing hair long after the hormones should have settled down.
It's not as thin now, but it's still not as thick as it used to be, and it doesn't curl anymore, just looks like a frizzy mess.

Diflucan is known to make hair snap, break and dry. But then again so does YEAST.
You can try taking Biotin (1000mg). And add some gelatin to your diet.

lyme in hell, can you please point me to where i could read about diflucan being known to break, snap, and dry your hair out?

Hypothyroidism and low ferritin can cause hair loss. HypoT can cause it to be dry and brittle as well.
If my TSH is over 2, my hair falls out big time. My ferritin is also very low- 5. Need more iron.

Most of what I can find on MD sites indicate it causes hair loss. My hairdresser confirms it's a common problem with female clients taking it.

I had this too a while back; turned out I was anemic. After taking iron supplements my hair grew back strong. But as mentioned in this thread already, thyroid problems can also cause it.

I have thick, long hair and it is very dry and unmanageable. Most times I wear it in a clip.
I've always used beauty salon products thinking that a solution. No improvement.
The past couple months I have been using WEN that I buy from QVC. It is not a shampoo but a cleanser. It is helping my hair slowly, less breakage and texture is better. WEN cost about $45.00 a bottle and a bottle doesn't go too far on long hair. I air dry my hair. WEN does not strip haircolor because it is not a shampoo.

I started losing my hair 10 years ago and it has never stopped.
I also went from thick, shiny bouncy hair to thin and lifeless. So depressing.
I don't know how long I've had lyme but maybe all this time. I know after my last child I also lost a lot of hair for a long time...but it never stopped.
I've been tested for thyroid, anemia etc and it always comes back normal. I wish there was something I could do to make it grow back

When I was at my worst my hair became dull and looked awful. I finally got highlights to help it look better. Now it is doing much better, as am I.

I must say that I'm still loving my buzzed hair. I try to keep it about 3/8 - 1/2 inch long. No bed head. No hat hair. Easy to maintain.
It's not purple anymore, though. For at least the next four weeks, I'm a redhead.
I convinced my husband of the benefits of less hair, and now he's shaved everything but a mohawk. He won't let me dye it purple, though. No fun!
