What pain relievers can be mixed and which ones are a definite no-no when it comes to mixing???
I take a daily 81mg aspirin for my heart and then sometimes I get into pain from my sciatic nerve and don't know what to take.
Sometimes I take Aleve, but if I go into a really bad flare, can I take hydrocodone???
I'm so confused!!

- If you take hydrocodone (as it is usually teamed with acetaminophen), be sure to take liver protection like Milk Thistle as hydrocodone can be damaging to the liver - and to the ears. Milk Thistle can offer some protection for both liver and ears. It may not be enough, but it's a start.
Curcumin, Magnesium, Fish oil and Corydalis are the only pain relievers I'll ever trust. Andrographis also seems to really help.
I sure wish we could all afford week massage as that, too, has been a wonderful pain reliever and preventative measure when funds would allow. I'd like to see a volunteer movement for massage-trading get started, all in the right mind-set, of course.
I hear that in Sweden the school children all get weekly massages just for preventative measure (or at least this used to be the case, one LMT told me).
After many years of NSAIDs (like Aleve) eating away my stomach or other pain meds overwhelming my liver, my body just couldn't take them anymore. Recent articles below explain a lot of what has been kept from the public.
Excerpt: "I was taking Tylenol like I was supposed to, by the label," he said. A few days later the then 37-year-old Benedi was in a coma and in desperate need of a liver transplant. . . ."

Thanks!!!! Duh me! Didn't think of calling the pharmacist! Sheesh!
Figured I'd never sort it all out by Googling.
So no more Aleve or ibuprofen. Heck. I just started doing that a few weeks ago. Was just doing aspirin then hydroc if it got bad. Was trying to avoid the hydroc.

A great way to figure out what you can take with what is the "Interactions Checker" at Drugs.com.
I've used it many times to figure out what OTC meds I could take with my prescriptions, usually at 3 AM when the pharmacy is closed. (Isn't that always when questions arise?)
I am not sure if the Interactions Checker will cross-check supplements with meds, though.

wow keebler! I wish it was true about the swedish kids! I thought it was really funny!
A massage is really good, nut my LLMD says no massages...I dont knw why.
Sweden is by the way the worst country possible to live in regardning lyme disease.
There is NOOOOOOOOOO help here and there are THOUSANDS of sick people, just like me.
So sad, but true.

Swedish lyme sufferer,
I hoped you'd come by to let us know. The LMT I had about 20 years ago told me that. It could be that it was older information or another country - or maybe just one community but the idea sounds so wonderful.
No massages, ugh. I've not been able to get one for 8 months and while I've had to drop 90% of everything I was doing, I can tell dropping the massage has cost me the most backslide.
I'd be interested to know why your LLMD says "no" - there must be some reason. I've just found them so very valuable in so many ways and can barely move anymore with them. -

Massages just make my pain flare even more. I have to just leave it alone. Chiropractic doesn't help either.
Talked to the nurse at cardiac rehab and she said aspirin makes ibuprofen less effective and that if you take both, you increase the risk of a bleeding problem.

I would think that if you took your one small dose of asprin at one time of day, and took Ibuprofen or Aleve or other NSAID at another time of day, it would be ok.
Of course, I am not a doctor or pharmacist. And I don't know your health situation. Ask your dr, or pharmacist, but your doctor knows your health situation.
What the nurse said it true, but considering your small dose . . . ?? Ask you dr! Pain is the worst. I am a world's expert at it, it seems!
Personally, when I have bad pain and migraines, I do take Vicodin (1/4 of a ES pill = 2.5 mg) and Ibuprofen combined---or tylenol. And I take NAC, vit E, and vit C with each dose to help with the toxicity of the meds.
