I've been on Biaxin for almost 2 months now and Doxy for a month and my LLMD is adding Mepron. I was on it years ago and remember being cranky a little the second week, but that was a year after being treated for lyme.

Now I'm being retreated and wondering if it will be different this time around. I'm sure it helped last time, I'm just a little nervous about any anxiety or depression. I take a small dose of klonopin and can take more, so it's really the depression part that kinda scares me.

Did anyone not have depression or anxiety while taking mepron? When did you herx with it?

I don't want to psych myself out, just looking for some encouragement.

Thanks,

B4Lyme

I herxed at 24 days. I always did better on Mepron than off it when I was on meds.

Thank you for the encouragement. Your herx was overwhelming fatigue, right? Did any detox help?

Thanks,

I do OK for the first 7 days and then I get very ill. I need to keep taking a day or two break because it gets really bad (like ER bad). I'm not fond of this drug so far. [Frown]

I did fine on Mepron/zith, although a few months in, I needed to do the zith every other day, as my tinnitus was getting worse.

However, my LLMD had me take a proprietary herbal formula first for a couple of months or three until I stopped having reactions to that. He said that this helped prepare the way and kept bad reactions to Mepron down to nearly nothing. Otherwise, he said, before he started people off with the herbal formula, reactions could get pretty bad--ER bad, at times.

Best,

Cass A

I did fine on Mepron, but I'm not sure that I have babesia (neg test).

I experienced increased muscle and joint pain...no anxiety or depression.

Cass A,

What was the herbal that you took prior to the Mepron?

Thanks

I did fine on Mepron but not right away. At first I could not tolerate much at all.

I herxed pretty bad. Very emotional as well as physical. I found that if I took a break when things got too bad I did much better.

I started with a very low dose and worked up to 4-5tsp daily.

It really worked well for me and started to turn my life around. Biaxin worked better for me than zithromax.

I do have babesia duncani. I completed over one year of Mepron. Recently I have switched to Malarone.

I do think the key is to start very slowly and take breaks if needed. Several of the doctors felt that part of the babs herx was anxiety/depression/emotional. However, Mepron itself has these side effects. In my case, the anxiety and depression did surface but then passed.

Overall, it was a very positive part of my ongoing recovery.

Best,

Katrina

Dear B4Lyme,

The LLMD I go to has a proprietary herbal formula made by Byron Whyte.

PM me, and I'll give you his contact info.

Best,

Cass A
