This is related to my post below about Lyme and mucous.

I don't understand what part of me is malfunctioning.

When I have these episodes of throat and chest tightness accompanied by frothy mucus, I have this feeling that makes me burp to pass the pressure through.

But, when the episode is bad. I can't even get out the burp. The pressure sits there until my throat untightens.

WHY!?

don't know "why" Wolfed, but I have the pressure and the need to burp too....it makes my heart go crazy, my throat and chest feel tight....

burping relieves everything, IF i am able to get one out, weird.

It's the most frustrating thing, because if I try too much to relieve the pressure with a burp, the end result is my throat gets tighter and I get in less air.

If you find out why, please let me know... as I'll let you know if I find the answer as well.

I sometimes give in to my rule of no sodas and try a diet caffeine free coke. Then I get my husband to pat and massage my upper back and push on some trigger points with his elbow. I tell him to be firm and not fear hurting me. It takes a little while, but it really helps.

It is a terrible feeling. I also have trouble getting the swallow going. I choke easily, too. I think all of this is connected to the vagus (sp?) nerve that is affected by ld. Mom could not swallow after some time and had to have a feeding tube. They said she had ALS, but I am certain it was lyme.

I had a swallow evaluation done by a radiologist. They found that I did indeed have some problems. I was sent for speech therapy and learned some exercises and techniques that were most helpful!
