I think I posted about having hives a couple weeks ago. I can't find the post-and I also forgot I wrote it. But I am back because it's been over 2 weeks now I still have hives!
They have spread from my legs to my whole body. I take between 4 and 6 benedryl a day plus 2500 of valtrex. This has been symptom for me since the beginning of my lyme diagnosis. I also have a complete loss of appetite. Even if I am hungry after 1 or 2 bites I am done-just completely stuffed. I love food and have no idea why I feel this way. I am also strangely dizzy all the time. Big trouble with bright lights and I have bruises all over from bumping into things.
Mainly though I just don't understand these hives. SO if you have any clue please e-mail me at [email protected] because I will prolly forget to check this site.

What other meds are you on? I am just thinking maybe it is coming from another medication?
I would get to the doctor or ER though.. This sounds serious and Hives can be life threatening when it gets to your throat and breathing problems.

My throat is not being affected. Just my arms, stomach, and legs.
I am taking levoxyl, armour, valrex (2500mg) and benedryl. That is all. I was on IV for two months. Stopped Dec 31. Broke out in hives Jan 9th.
No change in my life, no change is what I eat-except the lack of appetite, no change is products I use. LLMD knows about it and I see her next week. But she has no clue.

Wow.. Well .. that is a stumper.
You wrote it has been a symptom since you were diagnosed with Lyme? Maybe it is a co infection issue? I dont know.
Gosh I hope you figure it out..
Sorry i could not help more... but keep those bendadryls handy in case it gets worse..

Do co-infections cause hives? My LLMD has suspected it's been an auto-immune symptom but I saw an autoimmune specialist who tested me for everything-literally everything-and the only thing that came back off was my thyriod.
Now that I am on thyriod meds and have been since July my C4a has dropped and I test within the normal range for thyriod. But now these hives are back.
I see my LLMD on Wednesday but I am trying desperately to come up with an answer. Typically I break out in Sept-every single sept since 2002. But this year I didn't break out and I thought wow, yay I broke the cycle..and now here they are..
It's just such a bizarre symptom to have for so many years. I have also had extensive allergy testing done (just did it in oct again) and again I am allergic to NOTHING.
So I have no idea. Truely no clue.
Thanks for your help though

After a fire here in which I was exposed to chemicals, I became chemical-sensitive and broke out in hives if I touched anything with chemicals in it. This included exposure to laundry substances too.
Have you experimented to see whether you are affected by what you touch?
A medical person mentioned ketotifen as a med that works as an anti-histamine - don't know more than that at this point.
Have you heard of the detoxigenomic liver test via Genova Diagnostics lab? It tests for 8 enzyme pathways in Phase I and 4 out of 10 drains in Phase II.
It can show whether we have a hard time genetically detoxing, and help guide a detox-knowledgeable doctor in knowing which liver pathways need help.

Hives can be a symptom of parasites. Please look up symptoms at humaworm.
Also type parasites and Lyme in to search bar here. They play a MAJOR role in Lyme disease.

I have had hives twice now since starting Lyme treatment. Both times I had been on abx. We thought it was a drug reaction, so I had to stop abx, wait for the hives to disappear and then wait a week and do a drug challenge at the allergist's office.
I passed the challenge with flying colors - no reaction.
Then I started another abx combo and the same thing happened.
My LLMD thinks this is auto-immune related.
I was drugged out and VERY sleepy while on Benadryl - awful. I had success with Zantac - apparently it is used off label for hives. Much less sleepy this way!
Hope you get some answers soon. Let me know if you learn anything at your LLMD appt, I'd be interested to know.

Smiles, do you feel more stressed or anxious than usual? If so, it may be your body reacting. When I was in college, if I was particularly stressed, I would start feeling itchy all over. I went to an allergist for testing, and no allergies were found. I finally put two and two together. I can still get that way if I become anxious or stressed out about something.

No, I do not feel more stressed or less stressed when I break out. Benedryl is fine because it's like speed for me. I am on go go go-then I crash. But it actually feels nice in a way to have energy to get things done!
I still have hives. My LLMD thinks it's auto-immune but I have tested for parasite and nothing positive. I have tested for HV-6, as well as rocky mountain spotted fever, and loads of other things.
I do think I am chemical sensative. If I use anything besides tide to wash my clothes I break out in hives. I haven't changed products in over 5 years because I have been very aware of this hives issues. They seem to come and go based on nothing enviromentally-although it's possible that my body just gets to a maximum point and then something enviromentally tips it over and I break out with the hives.
I see my LLMD tomorrow and I will ask about the humaworm and detoxigenomic liver test via Genova Diagnostics- I have had genova genetic testing. I do not have the genes to methalate or something so I have to take msn, mag, nakkotine, mytake mushroom, and gluthathion.
THanks for all the help!

Weirdest thing-when I am on bactrim, I get hives if I eat seafood. I can eat seafood with no problem off bactrim, I can take bactrim with no problem if I don't eat seafood. Tested negative for allergies. Finally, a Dr I know said the sulfa in the bactrim may be interacting with the iodine, causing hives.
Sometime, you have to do a bit of detective work. Keep a food diary..do you eat a different fruit/veg in the fall?

I think it could be associated with the Armour, but
I would look it up, as I have read reports of
reactions.
