Just curious
Why is low body temp most often associated with Thyroid issues?
I was at my LLMD's office a couple weeks ago and I had low body temp and he wanted to put me on Synthroid.
Based SOLEY on low body temp??
Keep in mind I weigh like 138 lbs, have lost 20 lbs, and don't have any symptoms of hypo except hair loss and low body temp.
I just don't get why low body temp has been secluded to hypothyroidism.
So many things can cause low body temp by my estimation.
Mercury Poisoning Candida Poor circulation Anemia
Anyhow... just curious what yall think.
Damn I'm tired of low body temp (96.8 avg)... but I'll be damned if I go on synthetic T3

Well, you can't underestimate the thyroid either. It can affect everything from the skin and hair to the heart and reproductive system. So consider the wide range of symptoms thyroid issues can cause.
Low temp may not always be the thyroid. We talked about how adrenals can factor in too.
Anemia/poor circ can result from thyroid issues. Low ferritin (and iron deficiency anemia) can be associated with hypothyroidism.

I know - it's in the back of my mind that I have thyroid issues.
But it's simply impossible to ever know.
According to everybody blood tests are useless. It just shows you hormones in the blood... not at a cellular level.
So I'm stuck with just testing the waters and seeing what happens?
Supplementing kelp?
Ahhhhhh this is like my biggest pet peeve right now. I'm in a thyroid bind.
I want to believe my ND that I'm not hypo... but I most definitely have my doubts.

Regarding low body temp. and thyroid issues.
I was going downhill fast prior to seeing my LLMD and getting on Biaxin.
One of the things that did came up was a low t4 or t3 level - I forget which one.
I had low body temp, chills and fatigue/exhaustion (along with an array of lyme symptoms that my PCP choose to ignore). I am very thin and did not gain any weight however.
I did not do any tx for the thyroid BUT afer a few weeks of Biaxin tx my thyroid levels came back to normal and alot of my symptoms have resolved and/or lessened..
Lyme is like a multi-symptom breakdown - just seems to effect everything. TG

I think lyme does affect everything including the thyroid. A lot of people get hypo when they have lyme. Being on thyroid supplements will not hurt you at all. Your thyroid just takes a rest and stops producing the amount of thyroid you are taking. But if your body has a problems converting T4 to T3, which is the active hormone that your cells can use, then you need to take something like Armour which has T3. You can also supplement zinc and selenium which helps with this conversion.
There are a log of people with thyroid issues, especially older women. Check out the symptoms online. I think it might be a good idea for anyone with lyme to supplement it just to see if it improves fatigue, memory, brain fog, pain, weight gain, dry skin -hair and eyes and the immune system.

canefan7; Good luck in your tx and I hope the Cowden helps...
I really felt a dramatic shift in my body after a couple of weeks of Biaxin.
Some of the first things to come back to normal was my low body temp., chills and night sweats stopped and fatigue got way better.

I think they have enough knowledge of thyroid
issues with lyme to treat the patient not the test.
If is is a malabsorbtion issue, caused by the cells
not able to work it because of the lyme yet it is
still showing symptoms I would take it.
