I was taking 500 mg while on levaquin and got tendonitis so that was obviously too low. I would suggest loading up with as much as you can tolerate two weeks prior to starting levaquin and then take 1000mg after you start it. I know you are supposed to start tomorrow but I would wait to be on the safe side. It really wipes out the bartonella if you can tolerate it long enough so you want to be prepared to go the distance.

For levaquin 500 mg to 1,000 mg a day seems the standard dose of magnesium. If taken less than three hours apart of levaquin it interferes the absortion of the antibiotic and in fact it is the best protective effect it has, to avoid levaquin reaching your cells. While on levaquin, it is important not to be depleted of magnesium anyway, otherwise the injuries that levaquin causes reach much more dramatic consequences. But magnesium is not the silver bullet to avoid damages from levaquin. The best preventive measures is to adjust the dose of levaquin to your weight (easy) and your liver function (much more difficult to find out). Unfortunately the subtle symptoms of the onset of levaquin toxicity are not useful for us lyme sufferers since it mimics many of the lyme symptoms, like all sort of neuropathies, insomnia, twiches, etcetera. In summary, I agree that the dose prescribed by your doctor seems low. Good luck.

I am also suppose to start Levaquin. I'm scared to death.
I am taking Magnesium but I'm also on IV Doxy so it could interfere with the Doxy. Oh well.
Has anyone taken IV Magnesium? I am going to ask my doctor about this.

I had stopped taking Magnesium for a while because some say it strengthens the Lyme.
