I smear it all over my body.
Not only does it help dry skin, it makes me smell like I do when I am on the beach in Florida ... not like I am really stuck in this cold harsh weather and NOT loving it.
Yepper.. tis true... coconut oil all over, a spoonful of fruit salad and a little Jimmy Buffet and I feel like a genuine beach bum.

I have it in my kitchen but it is so expensive I have used it sparingly. I do love the smell and taste. I put it in the granola I made the other day. I will use more of it. I can sure use the benefits - maybe I will get better brain function.
I notice on the site steelbone gave that there is a 5 gallon container of coconut oil on sale for less than $100. That is an amazing price. It is the best oil to give to horses too - recommended for metabolic problems. They should have it with ALCAR, acetyl l carnitine, to utilize effectively so I guess we would be better able to use it with that amino acid too. I'm hungry - gonna get out the coconut oil and make something!

I add it into my smoothies.
Nothing better than a pinapple and coconut smoothies.. I add liquid viatmains and flax seeds and greens and liquid achidophoulus and other things too... also add almond milk or coconut milk and a bit of ice... ..
Good to sip on through the day....
For those who have a tough time eating.. like I do... the smoothies really help make sure you are getting something.
I have some plan rice protien powder too I add in.
I have plently of other smoothies I make and this week I am into blueberries ones...
Always adding a bit of greens too an sometimes all greens...An apple helps those as far as taste.....Got to get those greens in there too.
I think there was a smoothies recipie thread awhile back. I could not do without them..

I put it on popcorn instead of butter. The first couple of time I thought it was gross. I'm used to it now and actually really like it, even better then butter.
I rub it on my skin too. My LLMD told me too.

"I have wondered about the benefits on the skin verses ingesting it though. I really have a hard time eating it."
I'm not much on eating oil, so I agree. I use it on my skin because I paid for a container full and don't want to waste it.. and don't know what else to do with it.
But you all have some decent ideas... so I may try that too.
I have no clue if it is beneficial on the skin... but I do feel the ocean surf on my toes when I smear it all over.

I LOVE the coconut cream concentrate!!
Eat it with a spoon, and it's 70% coconut oil!
Also, the maker, Tropical Traditions, has 2-for-1 sales often, so you can get coconut oil or coconut cream at really OK prices.
They carry many types and grades of coconut oil, from deodorized to the organic, traditionally prepared stuff.
I don't make any $$ promoting their products--I just love them!
Best,

Yum! Healthy and tastes good, too!
Use it to cook chicken, use it instead of veg oil, eat it on toast, in popcorn, and anytime you need oil/butter.
If you're on Mepron and wanting to add fat when you take your Mepron - nice choice.
And smearing it all over one's body - yep, yep, been there too! Love it, love it!
We don't have it in the house any longer, due to serious allergies (anaphylaxis - breathing is more important than coconut oil) but - oh, how I miss it!

Can you use it as a face cream on a daily basis? then put sunscreen over it?
I bought "Nutiva organic extra virgin coconut oil." I am hoping it is a good one to use. I am also new to coconut oil.

lifelin,
yes you can use it on your face. I've heard that the first couple days or up to a week your face will tighten and even start to crust.
But it's just removing dead skin cells. after a week or 2 of use your skin will be baby soft.

I have Nutiva too - I believe it's one of the best brands with the highest amount of Lauricidin in it. I just started using it a couple of weeks ago and am now suffering from a "relapse" after months of feeling at about 90%.
It supposedly breaks up biofilms that Lyme and other diseases like to hide in plus the Lauricidin is a huge immune-booster. Either way I'm feeling horrible now and taking a break from it.
That being said, if you're new to Coconut oil GO SLOW. It's powerful stuff.

I really want to add coconut oil to my present 'protocol'...two questions: isn't it high in cholesterol? and..which is more effective..the coconut cream in a can or the oil?
I'm confused (doesn't take much!) Thx

As many of you already know - I don't have lyme, my sister "had" lyme and is now "autoimmune". She has very severe crippling lyme arthritis.
She does NOT have "neuro" lyme which MIGHT be attributed to very high doses of Prozac which keeps serotonin higher, longer.
I am gutsy and have RESEARCHED- in depth - and tried Rife, an ozone sauna, OmegaBrite, bought a soloflex machine, bought an infrared (Photon 90)machine, tried Ondamed, etc. to see what they are like for myself BEFORE I recommend them to anyone.
I purchased 3 tuning forks very recently...perfect A = 432 Hz (the key lyme frequency and considered the frequency of light), and 2 "C"s = 256Hz and 512Hz.
I have yet to use the "C" tuning forks following (learning from) the "tuning fork therapy" video on You-tube.
I know this is very very very hard to believe and many of you may think I've gone "over the edge", but...
Today, I was in so much pain (right wrist, tendonitis)from packing up my mom's stuff that I was desperate - DESPITE taking 2 Advil AND one Tylenol #3).
I used the 432 Hz perfect "A" tuning fork over my wrist (keep in mind depth of penetration issues!!!) and
***the pain was reduced a LOT - IMMEDIATELY.***
I felt a "tingling" as I got the tuning fork very close to my skin. The sound is very "pleasant".
I was in shock. I did NOT expect that to happen i.e., immediate relief of pain!!! (I am skeptical by nature.)
Let me remind you...our skin is very thin at our wrist area...no muscles/fat for the soundwaves to penetrate.
I will continue to use this therapy and hopefully will be able to AVOID SURGERY on my wrist (goal). Acupuncture x3 has not worked.
I also have "The Frequency of Light" (432 Hz) CD which I will be playing at bedtime every night (as an experiment).
About coconut oil:
Coconut oil comes in a jar at health food stores and looks sorta like Crisco at room temperature.
The "Alzheimer's disease" protocol says 3 Tablespoons (divided doses) per day.
The "active ingredient" appears to be caprylic acid (which can be purchased cheaply separately).
Look VERY closely at the "medicinal food" for AD called Axona.
Give it TIME!!! It takes a few MONTHS to BEGIN to see a difference.
Coconut oil is high in medium chain fatty acids. They are SATURATED...which simply means they are ALREADY loaded with HYDROGEN (which Bb maybe exchanging for sodium, Na).
Normally this is NOT considered a "good thing" i.e., already saturated (loaded with hydrogen) fats.
Caprylic acid (and lauric acid) are KNOWN anti-bacterials, anti-fungals and anti-virals.
From what I've read...coconut milk (avail. in cans at grocery stores in the baking aisles) can substitute for coconut oil.
10 oz. of coconut milk (divide the doses x3) = 3 T. of coconut oil - which also is supposed to be divided x3 per day i.e.= 1 T, 1 T., 1 T.).
So...1 T. of coconut OIL at bkfst, lunch and dinner
OR
3 oz. of coconut milk at bkfst, 3 oz at lunch and 4 oz. at dinner (=10 oz) every day.
This can be added to a "smoothie" to help disguise the taste if you don't like it.
OR...consider caprylic acid (Solaray makes it...cheap). We NORMALLY consume 400 mg of caprylic acid per day in our NORMAL diets...from what I've read.
Caprylic acid converts to a ketone in our liver...a very special ketone...BHB.
Axona:
"Axona is a formulation of caprylic triglyceride, a medium-chain triglyceride that is metabolized to ketone bodies, predominantly b-hydroxybutyrate (BHB).
BHB in turn is metabolized to acetyl-coenzyme A (acetyl-CoA).
Acetyl-CoA enters the tricarboxylic acid cycle leading to
