An MD who knows my husband shared a horrible story about one of her patients, who was found to have such severe mercury metal poisining that she was bedridden with tremors etc., and hospitalized in order to undergo emergency chelation.
After exploring all possible causes of the toxicity, they (a compounding pharmacy that analyzed the vitamins she was taking) found that the vitamins that were manufactured in China had a mercury coating, presumebly to facilitate swallowing.
I am not trying to alarm anyone, but I am wondering, since many of us take a lot of supplements, and also have heavy metals and/or detoxification issues, is this something that we need to explore further?
How can we find out which vitamin companies manufacture their products in China?
Thanks for your help! JJ

There have been a number of products that have been manufactured in China in the past few years with high heavy metal levels. It was all over the news a few years ago.
Call the manufacturer if you have questions about their product. If they can't or won't answer your questions, buy the product elsewhere. I've found most manufacturers to be very willing to answer questions.
Many companies (especially the products sold only through professional's) are tested for purity. You can sometimes find information on their websites about the purity of their product.
Fish oils are prone to contamination with heavy metals so it's always a good idea to check with the manufacturer for something showing that they've tested for purity and the results were good.
If you trust your doctor and he is using herbal products, ask him/her for a reliable brand.

Thanks, Terry, for your response. I don't buy everything from my LLMD because they are too expensive.
I buy well known brands but I have not checked yet to see where they are manufactured. I will try to contact each company and try to find out.

That is why I refuse to buy supps from WalMart. They do a lot of business with China and I suspect their supps are not safe....just my opinion.
IS there a way to find out where supplements come from??? Often the companies will state who the distributor is... and it can be NJ or NY or whatever... but WHERE is the product MADE?

Hey, round here most think that cheaper is ALWAYS better.
And I realize that most here do not or cannot read actual books on this type of subject.
So I am going out on a limb here recommending "The Real Truth About Vitanins and Antioxidants" by Judith DeCava.
Most vitamins for sale are cheap chemicals, not from food ! I know God is a natural engineer, NOT A CHEMICAL ENGINEER ! '
