Started yesterday and after three doses I have a buzzing in my head and my eyes and throat feel like there is ground up glass in them. I also had major panic.

Anyone else have reactions?

Yes. All of that. The buzzing is called tinnitus and, with liver support, that should get better.

There are some things that can help. First, you might need to back down in your dose but that is best discussed with your LLMD. What is your dose?

Are you taking liver support like Milk Thistle (a few hours away from doxy)?

Did you get some good magnesium? That is very important to off set these effects. Magnesium will also lessen the panic but so will adrenal support. Cordyceps is the most basic.

I'm assuming as it nears 1 a.m. where you are that you have none of those. Do you have some Epson Salts? If so, put some in a large bowl with warm water and soak your hands or feet. This well get some magnesium into your body. RINSE afterward to avoid skin irritation.

A dose of Fish Oil can also help calm the panic. If you've not yet gotten that, eat a few Walnuts or Brazil nuts. I'd suggest salmon for breakfast when you get up later but I'm pretty sure that's not on your menu. But, if you have some around, it would serve you very well.

Warm herbal tea may be helpful but nothing stimulating. Warm water if you have no gentle teas. Your body needs more water right now but be aware you'd like to sleep through what is left of the night.

Tomorrow you can address this more fully. For now, breathe slowly and deeply. Soft music may help you get a pace going so you can drift off to sleep.

Those reactions could be a herx, instead of side effects of the drug. The drug kills off the bacteria, and the dead ones release toxins that cause Lyme symptoms to flare up.

It can be hard to tell what is a herx and what is a side effect, but if you have a herx, you can get worsened symptoms (for you) that may not be the same symptoms or severity that someone else has in response to that drug.

I am on doxy, and had a herx starting the 3rd day I took it, lasting about 10 days, where my joint/muscle pain that I had been having was magnified and was everywhere.

That got better, and in the 2 months since then, I have not had another herx like that.

For several weeks, I had a very dry mouth and lost the ability to taste sweet things, and then that went away, and I think it was a drug side effect.

The other side effect I have had is nausea. I take the doxy at the end of a full meal, but sometimes about 45 minutes later, I get sick at my stomach, sneezing and runny nose, and it lasts for about half an hour. Once it made me throw up.

I don't get that every time, but it always coincides with the timing of when I take the medicine, and I am still getting it after 3 months on the drug, so I think it is a side effect too.

Nausea and dry mouth are listed in the pharmacy information among the side effects of doxy.

When you herx, the meds are killing off spirochetes. Therefore your symptoms can become intense.

You will have your usual symptoms get worse, and some new symptoms may show up.

Keebler is right.. you may need to back off the dosage.. but work that out with your LLMD.

Hang in there!
