Anyone know what would cause lower left side pains? Down kind of low above the hip so I don't think it's the spleen. It looks like it could be a bit swollen. I am thinking his colon area?

My 13 yr old just starting complaining of this tonight. It hurts to move and sometimes to talk he says. He has a history of a stomach ulcer and a inguinal hernia. He also has Lyme and an enlarged spleen.

My husband doesn't want me to take him to the ER cause he doesn't feel it's bad enough. So we are going to try to wait it out to see the dr tomorrow.

But his pediatrician is a duck! LOL He thinks everything is a growing pain or something stupid. He doesn't know about the Lyme so I don't know how that will go.

We tried a new pediatrician but that was a bad experience. He just grilled me about Lyme so I left and never went back.

Anyways, any ideas? I looked on line and found diverticulitis as a possiblity? Wondered if this is a common thing with Lyme or not?

Thanks! Amy

i can't remember if it was his right or left side,my son did that. he also had a fever so they thought it might be appendix related.

thank god it was not, DR decided to wait a bit before he cut on him, and im glad he did

It was a viral thing that made the lymph nodes in the stomach swell, it's very painful but goes away in a day or so. and it just hit him out of the blue.
Hope he's feeling better soon

My son would get this and it turned out to be a form of constipation. We had to use Pedi-lax and it relieved it almost immediately.

He takes a small dose of Miralax every night to prevent this as he seems prone to it.

So, I can't say for sure hat it really is, but this is what worked for us.

Good luck.

Hi Amy,

I'm sorry that your son is in pain right now.

Make sure he does not have a fever. If he does, it could indicate possible appendicitis...yes some people do have an appendix on their left side I have read!

Also, you can get twisting of the bowel which can be very serious. If he is in a lot of pain, I would take him in. I know when my appendix ruptured when I was in college and having trouble talking to my mom at that point. She told me I was probably just ovulating!

He may have a high pain tolerance which can be hard to decifer whether it is a real emergency or not.

If he is running a fever though, I think it would be best to take him in.

I hope it's nothing.

Take care,
Ocean

I have lots of pain in my abdomen area. It starts under my rib cage and goes all the way to my pelvic bone in the front. At first, I thought spleen, but you said it was too low. My doctor said the pain lower than that on the left side is a bend in the colon.

He said that my food wasn't moving through my body fast enough. And, I don't eat like I should so I believe him. I have pain at both bends in my colon (ascending and descending). You can get diverticulitus (if I spelled that right).

Hope that helps.

Apendix attacks, while usually causing pain on the lower right, can also cause pain ANYWHERE in the abdomen. This is very important to remember.
