Has anyone tried this new drug for Fibro pain? I am on the 6th day and it is not yet helping the pain. I'm feeling dizzy and off balance. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

I've heard good things about Savella. Give it some time. It may take a couple weeks before you start to notice improvements with this type of therapy.

Did you LLMD prescribe this?

Are you still taking good liver support and a good quality of magnesium, fish oil and turmeric (as those are the top 3 pain relievers)?

Vertigo and balance problems are common side-effects. This could be affecting your inner ear. If so, that can be very serious. I've been told by my ear specialists to stop any meds that had that effect. I can't spend a lot of time on this now but I just started searching a little bit.

Until you know for sure that this is not going to be toxic to your vestibular system (inner ear/middle ear / balance) I would hold off on it. Your ear system affects everything and it's best not to put it at risk.

I would also be very concerned if you have dry mouth from this. Dry mouth can allow bacteria to have a field day in the month. I lost lots of jaw bone from being on a drug that caused dry mouth. When bacteria sets up on the mouth, it also is more likely to affect the heart.

Mouth infections are also linked to obesity.

Common Savella (Milnacipran) side effects may include insomnia, constipation, and dizziness.

========================

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milnacipran

Milnacipran

Milnacipran (Ixel, Savella) is a psychoactive drug which functions as a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). It is used for the treatment of clinical depression and fibromyalgia.

The recommended dose for depression is 50 mg/day

The recommended dose for fibromyalgia is 100 mg/day (after an uptitration period ) which may be increased to 200 mg/day based on individual patient response. . . .

Side-effects:

The most frequently occurring adverse reactions (≥ 5% and greater than placebo) were nausea, headache, constipation, dizziness, insomnia, hot flush, hyperhidrosis, vomiting, palpitations, heart rate increased, dry mouth, and hypertension [FDA Savella prescribing information]. . . .

. . . Mood swing to mania has also been seen and dictates termination of treatment. . . .

CORYDALIS
--------------

http://www.itmonline.org/arts/pain.htm

SIMPLE TRADITIONAL FORMULAS FOR PAIN

Shixiao San, Jin Lingzi San, Liang Fu Wan, and Baishao Gancao Tang

by Subhuti Dharmananda, Ph.D., Director, Institute for Traditional Medicine, Portland, Oregon

excerpt:

. . . Corydalis is added "to increase the pain-relieving effects of this prescription."

To compare Shixiao San and Jin Lingzi San, it is helpful to examine two of the main ingredients. Yang Yifan (9) compares corydalis to trogopterus (wulingzhi):

Corydalis and trogopterus enter the liver and spleen meridians. Both are able to promote blood circulation and remove congealed blood. They are very effective for relieving pain.

=======================

This is an excellent formula, intended for use before going to bed (follow instructions and caution with driving until you get used to it. Do not mix with sedative or alcohol).

This is also part of a lyme protocol:

See #28 - HerbSom

Ingredients; Corydalis root, jujube seeds and Schisandra fruit.

Jujube is also called zizyphus. Schisandra is also spelled schizandra. Both can be searched at PubMed and at The One Earth Herbal Sourcebook ( http://oneearthherbs.squarespace.com )

Topic: CURCUMIN Prevents Some Stress-Related Changes (Endocrine & Neuro)

=================

In my experience, Corydalis makes me sleepy. Curcumin (Turmeric) does not. Both help relieve pain.

==================

A Gluten-Free diet is also of wonderful help regarding body comfort. There are many other ways for your body to feel better.

Liver support comes to mind, especially. A stressed liver can cause full body pain and brain fog.

And increased circulation is good as pain is often from lack of circulation. Massage is very helpful to break up stagnant conditions that cause pain. Lymph massage, especially.

Another herb, Prickly Ash Bark can be very helpful to increase circulation and decrease pain. Herb Pharm is one good brand. It is also included in some lyme formulas.

My nuero recommended Savella. I tried it for about 3 months and never got any better. However, my biggest complaint is fatigue, not pain. I mean I have pain, but the fatigue is what keeps me from being able to do what I want to do.

i just recently tried savella. i had sweats and cold chills and lots of dizzyness. i had nausia as well.
some of my over all body pain was damped down a tiny bit but it didn't help my neck or spine pain.
i became more and more weak and fatigued on it. i went to my doc and she tested my BP laying down, sitting and standing and i had orthostatic hypotension....pretty bad.

i quit the Savella. i was only on it for 10 days. i started treating the POTS with increase in fluids and hawthorn.
i ve been slowly getting better but its taken months. everyone is different but its worth reading the blogs on fibro sites. best of luck
