I have found taking the vitamins/supplements has increasingly turned my stomach even at the thought of taking them...

Then last week I had a stomach virus, vomiting and diarrhoea... now a heavy cold......since the stomach bug i have not taken the supplements to aviod feeling nauseated...

Today i took them as I know how important they are......and I am nauseated again......

Is there anything I can take with them or before them to prevent this horrible feeling?????

Are you taking vitamins in the middle of a fairly good meal? Clear soup or a banana is not enough (I made that mistake more than once over the years). Something like lentil soup is best. That is important as the B-vitamins can cause nausea on a empty stomach.

Maybe take lower doses more often. But, as this seems to be mostly related to the stomach bug from last week, you might just take it easy another couple days and be sure to eat the most nutritious foods, then.

Some brands are just harder on the stomach than others. Any that contain Bee Pollen can be especially rough without food. Same with iron. Also check the source - what's really in them.

What are the brands you are taking ?

You may want to check out the threads here today about the real and fake vitamin differences.

Vitamins from real food should not upset you. Vitamins from chemical parts certainly can.

My doctor has me on a three day vitamin and supplement break plus has me doing epson salt/hydrogen peroxide baths with grated ginger wrapped in cheese cloth.

My stomach has been upset lately so he advised me to do this and I think it's a good idea for some of us to take a vitamin "vacation" from time to time. Missing a few days of vitamins won't hurt you.

The epson salt with peroxide and ginger bath I took last night was absolutely amazing! Never had one before last night and after I got out of the tub (twenty minutes later) I felt great and even my stomach felt better. Can't wait to take another one tonight! Not sure why this helps so much (maybe Keebler and explain it) but it really made me feel great!

Here's the recipe from Dr. Jernigan's book, "Beating Lyme Disease".

Detox Bath:

4 cups Epsom salt
32-64 fluid oz. of 3% hydrogen peroxide
2 T. of ginger ---- grated and wrapped in a tea ball or fine piece of cloth.

Instructions:

Fill the tub with warm water and soak for at least 20 minutes. They say that the benefits of this bath are cumulative and increase in effectiveness the more you use them. You should consider doing this 3 or 4 times a week.

Hope his helps you Florence!

Gary

Florence, I had the same problem for a few months when I first started supplements, so I

would wait till mid morning to take mine. Sometimes I still have trouble getting them all down.
It got easier for me, hope it does for you also.

B Vitamins upset my stomach, and I stopped taking them.
When I developed neuropathy in my feet, I was advised that B vitamins would help.

I found a co-enzymated sublingual B complex.
Doesn't cause upset stomach!

Alpha lipoic acid upset my stomach.
I experimented, and found that Source Naturals Acetyl L-carnitine with Alpha lipoic acid worked fine, no upset.

Florence, the cheap magnesium brands are likely not as effective...they use mag oxide.
Magnesium glycinate is much better.
See Source Naturals Ultra-Mag.

Yes, investing in high quality food based vitamins like massman suggested does make a big difference.

Also, taking them with food is important, especially if you have a weak stomach like I do.

If you do a search on vitamins there's lots of good advice there regarding good quality vitamins and supplements.

If anyone tries the bath like Gary mentioned -- please get out at the first sign if you start feeling worse. I remember hubby having a seizure-like spell in the tub once and him swallowing a lot of water before I could get him out of the tub.

The hydrogen peroxide can cause a herx type reaction for some people -- you can absorb the oxygen thru your skin. Best to try in small quantities first. The ginger or mustard powder are good additions to a bath, but they will stimulate bloodflow and could also cause reactions in some people with blood pressure issues.

As well, I've passed out in a bath that was just too hot for me. That is why WARM is best. There is no way a human body can get hot enough to kill spirochetes and a WARM bath will increase circulation very nicely. Hotter is not better.

You can also enjoy a warm bath much longer.

Now, no one above said anything about a hot bath but so many just do that so I wanted to caution.

Gary, as to why you felt better, I'm not familiar with hydrogen peroxide and all. I just do epson salts now and then, not too long and not too hot.

Otherwise, if too much, a bath can land me in bed for a week, literally unable to move. Like Goldilocks, I need it just right and pretty simple.

Glad you feel better from this, though. I also appreciate Bea's caution as besides passing out in the tub, I have also had a seizure or two. As lyme patients do experience seizures more than the general population (and heat can trigger one), it's just good for everyone to know not to push it.

All that said, water is very healing.

I would so love to have a small pool where I could at least tread water. I can't go to a public pool at any time - so I'm always dreaming of a pool in my apt. or the lotto.

Just had to toss that into the bath water. I rarely discuss personal matters here so I'll take a little time now: I want a pool. I want a pool. But, for now, I better get a shower as it's lunch time already and the leaf blowers are soon to invade for the afternoon.
