i'm just curious and i swear i can't remember. but i think somebody on here said they DID go back on abx after having c. diff.

most have said no way ever, even my gastro said to be super careful.,

but, hey, honestly, if i took a ton of probiotics and florastor couldn't a little biaxin work?

i mean, why do we have to avoid the abx? is it because the c. diff comes back no matter what you do? or can you prevent it?

sorry for being such a bear but i just am having a hard time that i can't do the abx anymore.

good heavens, what if i get really sick? should i tell the docs hey i've had c. diff and then let them figure it out

shouldn't i wear a bracelet or something that says hey i've had this and ya'll better be careful.

The c.diff usually comes back, and worse then the previous bout. Some people recover quickly from c.diff and can go back on antibiotics though. They are the lucky ones, the exception to the rule. Biaxin is not a good choice because it speeds up intestinal transit. You might want to try Bicillin injections since they bypass the GI system somewhat. Just an idea. You CAN continue to take Flagyl, and that on pulse will help treat Lyme. IV Vanco is the extreme option.

If you are going to take this risk, make sure you take the Florastor 2x per day and probiotics.

Usually once you get c.diff you have to stop antibiotics for a long time, if not forever.
It's extremely foolish to go right back on them when you are still recovering from c.diff in the first place. Unlike Lyme, c.diff can kill you, and rapidly. It is not some little bug that is easy to kill off with antibiotics if it comes back. Be VERY careful and make sure you are under the guidance of a good GI doctor plus your LLMD at the same time during this.

What do we do, then - once we've had C Diff - for Lyme and co treatment?

What about Bart and Babs?

I have gone back on abx several times since having C Diff - but never for very long.

But that was just luck, really - it just so happens that I was moving into needing less treatment right when the C Diff happened.

But the thought of a relapse is frightening.

I had C. diff for 11 months. I've been back on antibiotics since. I've not had C. diff come back, but I do take probiotics regularly and say lots of prayers.

Randi~ Make sure you don't have viral infections. Because you could treat those if you do, and those don't require antibiotics, and that would allow your gut to heal. I was off antibiotics for about a year before I went back on.

Best, Timaca
