I had taken Cholestyramine a couple of years back as part of my lyme tx to help with detox.

Caused really bad headaches so I stopped.

I am considering starting back on again and was wondering if many people are taking it and if so what has been your experience?

I am familiar with Dr. Shoemakers protcol treatment of Neurotoxins and my LLMD thinks Cholest. will help speed up some of flushing out of lyme toxins better then the natural supplements I am on.

Alternative is to stay on my natural supp.s. Any feedback would be appreciated. TG

I take Welchol sometimes.

Welchol is the easiest to take... albeit not as strong.

Make sure you space them out from the antibiotics as much as you can, if not, altogether. [Smile]

Thanks for the responses.

WC; I am pulsing my abx.s right now so on the 3 days I am off during the week I am taking the Cholest. Thanks for the tip!

I read somewhere - but I cannot remember where- that if you have active Lyme you should not take Cholestyrmaine. Does anyone know anything about this???

My LLMD said it is safe to take on my days off from abx.s so I am putting my trust in him. TG

I dont know about tha't I just know that at my last llmd appt (March 12th) my Dr decided to have me try the chol. powder.

I just got it filled last night and will be starting it today.

My Dr has been treating me for lyme and co-infections and he didnt say anything about not taking it if you have lyme.

I am on abx... zitro, rifiampin and micoin.. also flagyl and nystatin, artem. along with other supplements.

The directions on the pharmacy leaflet says to take other meds 1 hr before the chol. or at least 4 hrs after the other meds (with plenty of water).

Hope this has helped.

Karen (:

I've been taking cholestyramine the whole time I've been in treatment. The few times I've tried to stop, I get a lot sicker.

I am so much better than when I started treatment 4 years ago. Not well by a long shot but I have no doubt that I would not be able to tolerate abx without cholestyramine or some other binder.

I can see no reason why one should not take cholestyramine with an active infection. Do you have any other info on that? Any reasoning behind it?

The time that you need cholestyramine is when you have biotoxins and borrelia creates biotoxins.

I think it is important to include actos as part of the treatment, otherwise lyme patients tend to have difficulty tolerating cholestyramine.
