Anyone have any information on IgeneX testing for Bb and other co-infections through the bone marrow? And anyone know the cost?
I am having bone marrow biopsy #2 at the end of this month (by Johhns Hopkins - as they are trying to find the cause of my hematologic abnormalities - as no one else can figure out the cause) and I'd like to have some of the bone marrow sent to IGeneX. The problem with that is, I am sure it's EXTREMELY expensive.... probably more expensive to have them test bone marrow than blood, unfortunately. And I really have no idea how I'd get Johns Hopkins of all places to send some of the bone marow to IGeneX!!! LOL.
If anyone has any information about the costs and how to go about that, I'd be really grateful.

i mdont know how much it costs but they will send you a kit. it has a special tube for the bone marrow. just ask them to put the sameple in the tube and take it and mail it according to igenex policies.
I was going to do this but was too afraid of a bma.
good luck

how do they take the biopsy? Can you get a babesia test that way- there are theories that it might be in bone marrow in some patients, I think.

How do you have a bone marrow biopsy done? Look it up...
The bone marrow biopsy may be done in the health care provider's office or in a hospital. The sample is usually taken from the hip bone. The skin is cleansed, and a local anesthetic is injected to numb the skin.
The biopsy needle is then inserted into the bone. The center of the needle is removed and the needle is moved deeper into the bone. This creates a tiny sample, or core, of bone marrow within the needle. The needle is then removed, along with the bone marrow sample. Pressure is applied to the biopsy site to stop bleeding, and a bandage is applied.
An aspirate may also be performed, usually before the biopsy is taken. After the skin is numbed, the aspirate needle is inserted into the bone, and a syringe is used to withdraw the liquid bone marrow. If this is done, the needle will be removed and either repositioned, or another needle may be used for the biopsy.
NOT FUN....
Yes, you can have the bone marrow tested through IGeneX... that is what I want done. But I'm sure it's too expensive, so I probably won't get it done.

I was wondering the same thing. My LLD wants me to have a BMB. My white cell count stays high and has for many years. ie 16,000-19,000. Supposedly the test can shed light on blood disorders, viral and bacterial infections, toxins and....tick borne illnesses. You have to wonder if a BMB is ultra reliable in regards to TBI's why it is not recommended more. Anyone have a TBI - found in BM? (biopsy? vs aspiration?

Please keep us informed of the findings.
This is interesting. I've read that babesia is in varying concentrations within the blood. So, the tests may not be accurate because they may not have gotten a portion of blood that has the pathogen.
Do you think this could be true of a bone marrow test?

You might also call Clongen lab for a price comparison. I am pretty sure they will test tissue biopsies but not absolutely sure about bone marrow biopsies.
