I've had a little surprise - pregnancy! I just found out that I'm about six weeks pregnant and although anxious about transmitting this bug to a baby, I'm excited.
About a year ago I had my diagnosis of chronic lyme disease and for the past 9 months I've been under the care of a LLMD thankfully.
I've improved a great deal and just finished my second pulse course of Flagyl with the intent of tapering off of all antibiotics in the next two months.
I called my LLMD as soon as I found out I was pregnant - he said to start on amoxicillin (3 grams per day) and azithromycin.
My questions to everyone is this - does anyone have any advice or experience with antibiotics during pregnancy?
I also have started seeing a non-itching blotchy rash on my arms and legs in the last 24 hours since I've started the amoxicillin.
Assuming it's the beginning of an allergic reaction, I may have to switch to another antibiotic.
Has anyone heard of other antibiotic approved and effective during a Lyme pregnancy?
Does anyone have any advice on other herbs or alternative remedies that are okay during pregnancy?
I am really praying for the best outcome with this pregnancy and any general words of calm or recommendations are very appreciated.

You can search for past threads on this topic. Several months ago someone posted a Yahoo chat room just for pregnant lyme patients.
If you are on azithromycin, liver protection would be essential for protecting your ears as many find zith is hard on ears. If you find any changes in your hearing, let your doctor know ASAP. As for if Milk Thistle is okay for you now, you'd need professional advice about that.
As for complementary approaches, if you could find an ILADS-educated LL ND (naturopathic doctor) that would be best. Your LLMD may actually know of one. You might read and then also contact one of the authors of some of the books or articles below. I don't recall reading specifics for pregnancy but I'm not on the look out for that. Congratulations. I have known of several women with lyme who had healthy babies, so it definitely can be done.
Amoxy and zith sound like the usual options for use in pregnancy from what I know. A rash does not definitely mean an allergic reaction to amoxy, but should be watched carefully and a visit to an allergist who can do skin tests on you for allergic reactions is definitely something you should consider doing.
Don't assume that because you have a skin reaction now that you are allergic to all beta-lactam antibiotics; that may not be the case, and that is why you need a good allergist to test you.
