I was diagnosed with Lyme in October of 2007. I did oral antibiotics for 6 or 7 months without making any real gains, then IV for 3 months which got me back to pretty much normal.

The only symptom I still had was fatigue, which cleared up with another 4 months of antibiotics and an antiviral. I did another 2 months on my current protocol, and then didn't take any kind of medications or supplements for a year.

Then early February of this year, it all came back. When I went back, we talked about how the thing that helped the most last time was the IV Rocephin. The doctor didn't want to throw me right back into doing IV, and prescribed me Spectracef, which is in the same family of antibiotics (or class? I'm not entirely sure how that works).

I feel awful. Really, really awful. Which as I understand it, probably means the stuff is working. Although when I did the IV, I never had any kind of herx, I just felt pretty steadily better (and pretty quickly).

Here's the thing... I hate to switch off of something that's probably working. IV's a pain, but if I could get the same gains out of something that didn't make me sicker in the meantime, well that sure would be nice.

I'm having a hard time working (and I worked through ALL of my treatments the last time). We're going to Europe at the end of May. I have things that I committed to because I was healthy at the time, that I've gotta follow through on now.

I'm trying not to be impatient but... well, I am impatient. I knocked this thing out before, and I'd like to be able to do that again. So I don't know what to do. Do I even have reason to believe that what worked for me last time will work again?

I'm going back on the 29th, and I know the doc will be asking me how I'm feeling and what I want to do treatment wise. I'm not sure what to tell him.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with LD yet again!

I have come to the conclusion that there is no predicting anything with this illness. However, I do see your point. If it worked last time, maybe it would do the same this time.

I think you should relax and give this med until the 29th, your next appt and see how it goes. Then discuss with your LLMD, just what you have said right here to us.

Hope you feel better soon!
