I thought this article was interesting:
http://www.worldwidehealthcenter.net/articles-115.html

From the site:

"In summary, for seizure disorders I recommend using a nutritional ``shotgun'' therapy, which includes:

Magnesium: 500-1,000 mg/day
Selenium: 100-200 mcg/day
Taurine: 1-3 gm/day
L-carnitine: 1-3 gm/day
GABA (gamma amino butyric acid): 500-1,000 mg/day
Vitamin B complex, w/special emphasis on;
Vitamin B1: 50-100 mg/day
Vitamin B6: 200-500 mg/day
Folic Acid: 400-1,000 mcg/day
Vitamin E: 400-800 IU/day
DMG (dimethylglycine): 50-200 mg/day
Pregnenolone: 100-500 mg/day
Kava Kava: 200-800 mg/day"

I really think this constant anxiety caused by overstimulation is related to seizure activity. I guess since the EEG waves aren't going completely nuts and since I remain conscious and aware when in a hypersensitive overstimulated state, neurologists still don't see the connection.

I took a mega dose of Magnesium (yes, a lot of natural calm), and P5P. This morning I took B-complex. The light of day is a stressor and causes feeling of overstimulation itself. Conversations cause it. Interaction causes it. Certain lighting causes it. Even watching TV causes it.

In terms of the weird type of anxiety I get, it is greatly diminished this morning. Mornings are usually the worst. I was feeling the best I have in a long time last night, and then started feeling bad last night when trying to go to sleep. That's when I loaded with more magnesium than I ever took in my life, and my body seems to taken all of it (stools are fine). I take amino acids via whey protein. I did wake up with stomach pain in the middle of the night, but that isn't uncommon for me. I was able to get back to sleep.

The hypersensitive CNS symptoms are virtually non-existent right now. I wonder how long it will last.

FYI: I am on depakote, klonopin, ativan, and occasionally a xanax if I need it. The cocktail is not too effective.

In my professional opinion, many neurologists don't often see the connections.
Their minds must be frozen.

Controlling anxiety ?
You may want to access www.mercola.com and search for EFT / MTT. IME those are ways to effectively deal with emotional stressors that affect your life.

You can try it on yourself - costs nothing except time.

Glad to hear the magnesium helps. I hope you are also on excellent liver support. Here are a bunch of links I've collected over time. The link with ** saved my life.

First, though: LYME (and other) INFECTIONS MUST BE TREATED.

Ingesting even a trace of aspartame or MSG? Even a trace? check even your cough drops, toothpaste, etc.

B-12 shots have helped me tremendously. A special kind is mentioned here:

Oh, my . . . I had not gone to the link in the first post before I posted and now the computer system will not let me edit my previous post.

The very link posted was the exact article I said saved my life, but with a different link so I did not recognize it. Glad to see it making the rounds.

One note about pharmaceutical anti-seizure cocktails - when they are not effective - well, they are usually very toxic to the liver. For lyme patients who have seizures, toxicity is often the cause. Adding toxic drugs is not likely going to help if the problem is from toxicity - neurotoxicity hyper-excitability.

1) treat infection(s) - the cause

2) support liver so that toxics levels are reduced

3) support adrenals, etc. A weak adrenal system can also cause seizures.

4) cover all the other things is the Dean article (avoiding toxic meds when possible, aspartame, MSG, etc. . . . ) That article is an excellent guide.

5) consider interaction of Porphyria as that can cause seizures, too

6) Inner ear conditions can also contribute to seizures

Adding to all that, in addition to magnesium, calcium and Fish oil (Krill Oil or OmegaBrite) . . . for me . . . I find Gotu Kola and Andrographis to be my best methods for seizure-control.

I've collected tons of links on both but will give you back your thread. Those can be easily searched at both Google and PubMed and Buhner's book "Healing Lyme" has a full chapter on andrographis.

Now, for another person, andrographis seemed to make things worse. So, I must mention that one size does not fit all. If something helps, great. But never push something just because someone else said it works for them.

For instance, the GABA mentioned in the Dean article - well, GABA causes seizures for me. Even tiny amounts. I've tried many different times over the years. Within one day, very harsh seizures hit. Before that, it just turns my muscles to jell-o, crashes my mood, and makes me dizzy - Just like the gabapentin drugs do for me.

I will never understand how anyone can take GABA. But many do and it helps them. My N.D. recently returned from a workshop and said that my response was reported by another N.D. and they had done some research.

She didn't have the details, but something about a certain function of the liver not working right can result in harsh reactions to GABA. Bingo. So often, it seems to come back to the liver.

I'm just glad that I found a couple other things that help as I was so disappointed when GABA clobbered me. Remember, if one thing does not work, there are always other things to consider.

Try googling B-vitamins + coal tar .

Many commercial B vitamins are actually made from coal tar. Not alive, not real. High doses are recommended and act as a stimulant. They can't heal you.

I was getting simple partial seizures in December before my Addison's Disease was caught. I basically lived in constant anxiety for a week and a weird derealized state with tons of De Ja Vue and Jamais Vu.

Have you looked into a possible endocrine imbalance?

I think the electrolytes play a major role there too.

If the brain firings(synapses) do not have them

they are not going to fire right....Like in the

heart, same thing...You can get electrolytes drink mixes to replace.

Dear Friends,

My experience with seizures and treatment is that first, I stopped the herbs I was taking when I started getting seizures.

Next, I found the nutritional approach to seizures--the link to it is above, and started taking everything on the list that I wasn't already taking.

I also went onto Mepron/Zith for Babesia.

I tested my zinc level again, and it was still undetectable!!!

Then, when the KPU data came out, I recognized that I was already taking ALL the KPU supplements except manganese, but the doses were too low. So, I started taking MORE ZINC and MORE B 6.

For me, I have an awareness of the feeling I get just before I start to have a seizure. If I take about 100 mg B 6, it stops the seizure in its tracks!!! I haven't had ONE since I started taking 200 mg B 6 twice a day, and another 100-200 mg whenever I feel the "strange sensation" that signals a seizure might occur.

Now, I'm well into the Allergie-Immun treatment from Germany, and am doing one detox after another after another--sometimes several things each day (charcoal, chlorella, oil pulling, bentonite, pectin, etc., etc.)

I've VERY rarely had the pre-seizure feeling in the last 2-3 months.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Cass A

I get that same weird type of anxiety. It feels like I might be about to have a seizure but I don't. Can't explain exactly what it feels like; but its not just regular common anxiety. Its extremely bizarre!

And I also get overstimulated VERY easy. Just carrying on a conversation for more than a few minutes and there it is.

It has gotten better with 2 years of treatment; but it still is one of my main symptoms.

I do take magnesium and the B vitamins; but I also take Xanax 4x a day which helps some. And I try not to get overstimulated, but sometimes its impossible to avoid.
