I've been battling serious yeast problems for six six weeks now. I had to stop ABX treatment.
I am on a sugar-free diet (and have been for months), take 3 different kinds of high quality probitics, 200 mg of diflucan (for 5 weeks now) and nystatin and the yeast just won't go away.
My LLMD has me on the cowden protocol until he can get control of the yeast. But my PCP told me today that when cultured, the yeast sample was not candida.
I have a call into my LLMD, but am wondering if anyone else has had this happen. I wonder if my yeast is not being targeted by the diflucan or nystatin (and monistat for that fun symptom).
Unfortunately the test did not say what strain it was, just that it is not candida.
any input? I'm suffering terribly and want to put an end to this problem once and for all.

There is a medicine called Sporax that may apply to what you are dealing with.
Ask your doctor about it. It's rough on the liver.

Sometimes TESTING is flawed... can you imagine that???
So that may be all it is... There are many kinds of yeast though.
Make sure you're not eating any sugar-free candies or cookies.

Was it a vaginal sample that they cultured or what?
My gyn told me that diflucan kills 90% of all vaginal yeast, but 10% it cannot kill. For those, they give you a prescription suppository--Terazol 3, for example.
One resistant yeast strain is candida glabrata.

yes, vaginal sample. i've done two rounds of monistat 7 in the last five weeks, all while taking 200 mg of diflucan a day and 2 pills, three times/day of nystatin.
have had no sugar-free cookies or candies. have only been eating whole foods that are made in my kitchen from veggies, nuts, eggs, or chicken. terribly boring and tasteless diet, really.
my PCP said there are other meds out there that coudl be taken but very rough on the liver. must be the sporax so she said try oil of oregano and pau d'arco.

that's ok. did you every try those two supplements for yeast? if so, any success? thanks!

I used oil of oregano before goin on abx to control yeast and i believe it was effective- olive leaf and caprylic acid are other natural things to try- there are past posts here on olive leaf if you do a search.
I don't think olive or oregano oil are as "choosy" with what they kill- they are more broad spectrum which i think may help in your situation but please go with what your doctor suggests.
I am in the same boat as you though because after starting abx my problem is back and i've done diflucan and nystatin too- so i'm going back to the natural things that worked before, plus being stricter with my diet
can't there be just ONE strain of anything, with ONE med that knocks it out? Wish we lived in an ideal world...

I had candida krusei which is resistant to diflucan, nystatin. Fortunately, the herb coptis is effective against this type of yeast.
