Hubby finally went to LLMD. He has been holding off for 4 yrs while we focused the dollars on me. I am finally well enough to step aside for him and he is so sick it could not have waited much longer.

Dr sees lots of yeast and definitely lyme. MRI ordered for possible lesions on brain. Yipes!

Here is my question:

She wants him to start Omnicef and Nystatin immediately. Problem is we leave in 2 weeks for a 2 week cruise. We are afraid the meds are going to make him to sick to travel and we sure don't want to start then stop the med. We are debating waiting until after the trip to begin treatment which our doctor isn't so happy about.
She says the longer he waits, the longer he will be on IV antibiotics.

What experiences have you guys had on these two drugs? What are your opinions about waiting?

If he's waited THIS long for treatment, what is one more month? Not the best scenario, but neither is herxing on a cruise.

Six, that is our feeling too. I did a search and there was varied reactions from nothing to herx city. However, most were on multiple drugs so hard to say if Omnicef was the cause. Also, if you have too much yeast, and Dr says he is "loaded", the antifungal (Nystatin) will make you herx too.

Yes, that is what I was thinking about the Nystatin.

The drugs I took in the Omnicef family made me feel better and better. Not to say he won't herx, but that was one of my favorite families of meds. It can cause stomach upset though.

Maybe start at a low dose of the Nystatin now and work up? That way at least he's doing something but not enough to be really uncomfortable??

Good idea. Plus, I believe he can stop the Nystatin without concern, unlike the antibiotic. right?

Yeah, I did Omnicef for 10 months, but I already had done 6 months of treatment and I was pregnant so I didn't herx. But, when I first started treatment I did. If it were me, I would wait, but I would certainly start nystatin right away. No herx there.

Just curious, how does your Dr know there is a lot of yeast?

She looked at his mouth, nose, ears and saw yeast. Now she is running tests.

I'm not surprised. That boy has been yeasty for years. Just a hard time convincing him. He is a typical man in that he doesn't ever want to claim he is sick.

We have decided to hold off on the Omnicef and do the Nystatin.
