My doctor just prescribed Rifampin for my 14 year old to start taking. Can anyone tell me their experiences taking this drug? I'm worried because she just had an allergy reaction to her last med (Bactrim).......

Rifampin may make her nauseous at first. Try giving it to her with food for a couple weeks. This helped me.
Once she seems to be tolerating it well then you can try gradually giving it to her on an empty stomach.

Tough drug to tolerate at first. I would suggest slowly working up to the full dosage (dump out some of the capsules) and increase the amount every couple days. Of course, check with your LLMD before doing so. The drug is up to 30% more effective ( I believe) when taken on an empty stomach.

My stomach was totally ok on it. I took on an empty stomach as directed.
My first dose of 300mg (1/2 usual) made me extremely dizzy. That is my main symptom anyway, so it just exaggerated it!
Hope it goes well for her!

A little bit of nausea and the dizzys... but that's it.
Oh and her urine will be orange/red
