Hi folks,

I posted a couple of days ago about this rash that has cropped up since I started treatment last week (biaxin). I have these little itchy bumps all over me. I am igenex IGM positive for lyme but haven't had my coinfection panel done yet, though we suspect bart and/or babs.

Some of these pimple things are very tiny. Sometimes they will swell to more of a small bugbite size and itch. They aren't really "squeezeable" or anything like a true pimple would be.

It does seem like some sort of folliculitis or something. I am waiting for a call back from my doctor. My question is, how to tell if something like this is from a herx or if it's yeast getting out of control from the abx?

I have had some other herx symptoms -- a couple of bad panic attacks, forgetfulness, a lot of muscle twitching, some dizziness and "off balance" feelings like I used to get when I was at my worst.

If you get a yeast reaction do you have to back off on the abx or can I just ride it out? I am really hoping it's die-off, not a yeast population explosion.

EDIT -- Got ahold of the doctor and he wants me to stop the biaxin in case it's an allergy. I don't have a good track record with abx... can't take penicillin, sulfa, or cephalosporins.

Feeling a bit discouraged.

The number one site for finding borrelia on autopsy

of animals is the skin. Epsom salt soaks have

helped mine a lot.

Thank you for the replies.. Do you think I should challenge my doc about taking me off the biaxin?

I really want to give something a chance to work. I was feeling very hopeful and now I feel like crying... the thought of quitting something that's working, or being allergic to something that COULD work, is very upsetting to me.

When I was little I always broke out in hives when I was allergic to something... like classic, welty hives. The rash I have now is NOT hives.

Have you looked to see if it is Morgellons?

Hi Pinelady,

I haven't ... I really don't know much about Morgellons. I've always assumed Lyme because my whole family has had it and I grew up in an endemic area (rural southeastern PA).

Also, I tested IGM igenex positive (CDC negative) for Lyme...

My WB shows:

31 ++
34 IND
39 IND
41 ++
58 +
83-93 IND

..and I'm IFA IND, and IGM neg.

So I've assumed Lyme and maybe bart and babs based on symptoms.

Should I be investigating Morgellons?

lajamur,

I am dealing with this as well a small itchy rash on my rt trunk area.a My llmd said it looks like something with the follicles.

My PCP yesterday dx'ed a fungal infection. I was rx'ed a lotion. However since reading a bit, I have found that a thin layer of Selsun blue rubbed into the affected area and left on for 15 minutes....

and then showered off works just as well...may be a little messy, sitting around with blue stuff, but hey, if it works, why not.

I am on Biaxin too and this is not an allergic reaction to the meds.

It is a possible like a lot of things with Lyme. You can do a search on the box up top to read some of the threads about Morgellons. Selsun Blue, good idea.

Thank you pinelady and feelfit! That is all helpful.

My skin is about the same, maybe a little better.

Now I feel like I'm coming down with a cold or flu, though! I haven't had a cold in two years... so it seems like it is directly related to the abx.

I guess it's possible that it's a herx but it really FEELS like the beginning of a viral cold or flu. Sore throat, malaise, some chills, etc.

I wonder if the abx just threw my system into upheaval making me more susceptible to whatever's going around.... despite having lyme etc I really never get sick anymore, so this is pretty weird.

This will be my first cold since giving up gluten two years ago. That change seemed to stop me getting sick altogether.

I got a cold towards the end of the first month of doxy, exact same symptoms. It's been 4 weeks and my nose is still all runny!

I also get that rash you talked about. It was extremely itchy. But luckily it never stuck around very long.

I've had some really bad days on abx and told my husband that was it I was done with it. He encouraged me to keep fighting and that's what I've done. I was starting to feel a bit better before I ran out of abx. But now I'm on day three again and starting over.

I would try some liver support and liver detox...
Especially if on abx for awhile!

Liver can give you skin issues and itchy skin bumps when toxic or clogged. Need to protect the liver with milk thistle and Pekana remedy for liver. also Chlorella helps clear toxins...

Drink lots of purifies water and lemon...

your skin is an organ too!
