Hi Everyone-
I know we've discussed individually on this board mag, calcium, sodium, potassium and supplementing with each. I know we've also discussed how supplementing with Vitamin D can increase muscle cramping at times.
I realize most lyme patients test "normal" on an electrolyte panel. However, has anyone found they feel better supplementing with electrolytes (instead of just water)???? If so, what symptoms does it seem to help with?
(Despite drinking plenty of water, I notice the fluid around my fingers swells at times and I'm wondering if I don't have the proper balance of electrolytes)...
Thank You For Any Insight!!!

Yes Bugg. Electrolyte imbalance is a problem, even with normal lab readings, I feel much better using liquid electrolyte solution once per day.
There are many brands, some quite expensive. A couple of posters make their own electrolyte solutions, but since I'm just one person (2, when my boyfriend is here), it's too much liquid for me. One of the more reasonably priced brands is from Morin Labs. If you decide to order from them, place your order by phone, as the shipping cost is much cheaper.

I began experiencing only what I can term as dysautonomic problems at the beginning of the year.
Lean to look at something, turn my head to look out the window--out of breath. Felt like squeezing sensation along various points on the vagus nerve.
Also, what I suspect was Postprandial Hypotension---dizzy, lightheaded after eating.
I introduce electrolyte-enhanced water about a month or so ago and things have improved a bit. Happenstance or not? I don't know.
I had no expectation that it would have an effect and the jury is out on any correlation.
My vagus nerve is still "weird". It's sensitive to any normal pressure on it. But I no longer have dizziness after eating and can turn my head without it as well. Direct pressure (leaning down, waist-band, anything constrictive) causes the "squeezing" sensation and lack of air sensation.
I'm low on Mg, but Mg blood testing is quesionable anyway. Other panels you mention are normal. Ironically, this issue started when my sodium levels were finally UP within normal range.

Wow, you guys are so helpful...I really appreciate these responses....
I just find that trying to find the right balance with these electrolytes can be so difficult....
I haven't been on abx in awhile so sugar/yeast isn't really an issue for me; so I drank some Gatorade today( yes, even though it has sugar in it)....
I have to say that I actually seemed to feel less "crampy"....Who knows, though, that's just one day of trying it....I noticed it seemed to bring the swelling down in my fingers...
I'm going to look into that one from Morinlabs...
Thanks again for your feedback!!!

Make certain that your electrolyte supplement also contains phosphorus - Here is the cocktail as Dr. K. recommends to patients. It makes a most pleasant drink and depending on your needs, do less.
The Rehydration Cocktail
Rehydrate the cells to restore and expand cell membrane structure, intracellular scaffolding, and function of all intracellular processes and membrane channel activity and Efficiency.
Biopure Matrix Electrolytes:
2 Tablespoons per 6oz cup. Use 2/3 water, 1/3 milk or milk-substitute: goat milk, nut milk, soy milk, protein powder drink. This helps the trans-membrane traffic of water,. Add source of glucose for electrolyte transport across cell membrane - to make nice tasting drink. Ad 1/4 teasp. Baking soda. 2 cups/day. (I use a bit of good maple syrup to taste. gg)
Recent experience shows that potassium-based salts and adding a source of glucose and aminoacids helps the cells actually get hydrated. This expands the inner scaffolding of microtubule - everything works better.
The phosphorus in Matrix Electrolyte helps the coupling of toxins to acids in the kidney, which then can be shuttled successfully out in the urine.
The electrolyte drink alone often gets the blocked detoxification process going and can stimulate a welcome related reaction and short lived aggravation of symptoms,. High dose Vit E and freeze dried garlic are amongst the antidotes. Using the binding agents is accelerating the process and minimizes detox reactions.
Take care.
