Will tablets work as well as liquid? My co-pay for Carafate liquid is $50 (no generic availale)but generic tablets are only $10.

Do you take these 3 times a day?

Anything available over-the-counter to protect stomach?

There is a supplement called DGL that works well to protect and heal the esophagus and stomach.

I have used the Enzymatic Therapy brand "DGL Ultra". It worked well.

You can check it out here:

I've taken both the tablet and liquid. I found the tablet much easier. It's a hassle to take the bottle with if your not going to be home. I think Carafate works really well, but be careful it can cause constipation.

I take the tablets. It is very easy to integrate with my other pills and take them at work or when out doing errands. I just make sure to always carry water and my pillbox with me.

I am supposed to take it 1-4 times a day. If I take it all 4 times, I take it once when I wake up, at least an hour before I eat breakfast. Then I take doxy a couple of hours after breakfast, and carafate another hour after doxy. I repeat the same routine in the evening. I take vitamins and supplements right after lunch, probiotics a couple of hours later with a small snack, and carafate an hour or two after that and at least an hour before dinner.

My dr.'s office person said she has put the carafate tablet in water for a few minutes and then drunk it, to coat the esophagus as well as the stomach. Or maybe you could hold it in your mouth with water for a while before you swallow it. I haven't tried that, but it is working great for me, just taking it normally with a lot of water.

As to constipation, I was having diarrhea before, and now I'm not, so in my case that was a benefit. [Smile]

It has helped tremendously with the nausea that I was getting daily from doxy. Now I can stay on it, since it is helping me.

liquid is better if you have probelms in your throat. but youcan easily make the liquid out of pills. grind up and add h20. do it in veterinary medicine all the time. remember no meds 1 hour before or 2 hours after carafate.

Funny, I thought it tasted pretty good at the time! It didn't taste much like chocolate so maybe that is why you didn't like it if you were expecting chocolate flavoring?

If I remember correctly you should take the DGL 20-30min before you eat.

Hopefully you will find something that works [Smile]

I always let the tablets dissolve in my mouth before I swollow. They are so big and kind of chalky I'd choke it I didn't.

Tablets are easier just space them out from your meds or they will bind.
