I got pregnant with my son (he's not 3) while I had lyme. I didn't know I had it at the time. The pregnancy was uneventful and normal. Several months ago, I was given the go ahead by my LLMD to get pregnant (this after 2 years of high dose antibiotic treatment for lyme and coinfections). Six months ago, I got pregnant and miscarried a couple days later-obviously, the egg didn't even implant. Then, eight weeks ago I got pregnant again. According to my ultrasound at 6 weeks, something didn't quite look right (the sac around the baby was smaller than it should have been). My hcg levels were also lower than they should have been for how many weeks pregnant I was. I was warned by my ob/gyn that I may miscarry. When we went back for our 8 weeks ultrasound, the baby no longer had a heartbeat. Of course, I have a big concern that this could be due to lyme, but my LLMD said my first miscarriage was too early to have been lyme-related. I haven't yet talked to him since this last miscarriage. I am feeling sad and discouaraged. Anyone else overcome this problem if it was lyme related? By the way, I am almost 100% symptom free from lyme and have been for many months. I still treat with antibiotics as a preparation for pregnancy.
Thanks for you support,
Lymers

Lymers -- I'm so sorry! Why didnt they give you HCG or whatever to supplement the pregnancy? Can't they do that? I know they can do that for progesterone.
I don't think there's any way to know. I do know that evidence has newly been released that bartonella can be responsible for miscarriages and can in fact transmit to baby. Youtube video for Dr Breitschwerdt.

I don't have have any answers for you. As you know I hope to get to a point where I too can get pregnant.
In the meantime, I am sending you a hug and wish for answers.

I think they can give you HCG to supplement the pregnancy, but I think they didn't want to do that because with the sac being too small they felt there might be something wrong chromosomally with the baby.
My doctor told me that if I didn't miscarry, I would be offered genetic testing for the baby to see if it was normal or not.
I just hope that I can carry a healthy baby to term next time.
Thans you guys,

So sorry to hear this!
Did you get your progesterone tested too, with the Hcg? Also, did you miscarry on your own (expel the tissue), or are you still waiting?
I would tend to look on the positive side, and think maybe it was just a chromosomal mishap (a chromosomal error while things were replicating). If your progesterone was low, that could be another issue. That is very treatable.
There are other reasons besides infections, like I wanna say inflammation in the body. (are you positive on any of the autoimmune tests, etc? Both the regular ones like ANA and also the ones they do with pregnancy like Anti phospholipid or whatever it's called)
I would not worry too much yet. Just keep trying. Maybe give your body a break, and try to eat an anti-inflammation diet until you try again, to be sure there is not even the slightest ammount of autoimmune going on.
There are other things you can look into. Some Lymies on here have gone to pregnancy clinics for positive autoimmune tests, and they treat that stuff during the pregnancy so your immune system won't reject the baby, etc.
Just keep trying! Hopefully it was just a fluke. Lots of hugs!!!!!!
