Hi folks:

So had my 6 week follow up with my LLMD today after starting treatment on 5/10/10. Was originally on 400mg / day of Doxy and pulsing 1000mg / day of Flagyl for 3 days every 2 weeks.

Overall...I am much improved. Energy is returned, brain is clear, vision and balance better. I'd say I"m at 90% +/- 10% on most days. Not bad for 6 weeks.

I complained about the Doxy and the sun and asked to be put on an alternative for the summer. So she put me on the following:

-500 mg of Biaxin (Clarithromycin) 2x / day (1000mg total)
-100 mg of Amantadine 2x / day (200 mg total)

-500 mg of Flagyl 2x / day (1000mg total) - 3 day pulse every 2 weeks.

She said this would cover the intracellular, extracellular and cyst forms and allow me to go in the sun.

Have others used Biaxin with Amantadine?

I guess the only thing I will add is Burrascano's guide says 250-500 mg of Biaxin every 6 hours. I'm doing 500 every 12. So it is longer intervals than Burrascano says.

Still...My MD and Dr. M in CT both said his guidelines are "a few years old now" and that newer research supports some modifications in some areas. Maybe this is one.

I've wondered about any updates to Dr Bs guidelines. Interesting to see your report.

I too want to ask about alternative to Doxy.

Congrats on your progress!

Sounds like a common summer protocol to me!
Now you can get out for a good walk.
I built up to 2 miles every Other day, weather permitting. Really helped!

My PCP recommends the time-release version of clarithromycin ("Biaxin XL") & taking both tablets together in the morning. Something about a higher peak serum level, making it more efficacious.
Ask your LLMD about this.
(I assume you know it's available as a generic.)
