I know many of you have experience with lyme disease so I would like your opinion. Over 4 or 5 years ago I got a weird bite on my back(I'm pretty sure it was bite). The area had a weird swollen, rashy look to it. I can't remember if it had a bullseye or not as my memory is quite obscure. My question is, should I get tested for lyme disease? Since the incident, nothing happened in the form of symptoms so I'm not sure if I'm just being paranoid.
What do you folks think? Could lyme disease lye dormant for this long?

I'd say you have nothing to lose by getting tested. Except for maybe a few bucks. Keep in mind, if your test comes up negative it doesn't mean you don't have it lying around in your system. It is not likely that it would have lay dormant for that long though, usually one would have experienced symptoms within a year.

Thanks, thinking back I can't be sure if I got sick during the rash because I can be mixing the memory up with another one. Let's say that I did get sick. Would you still think it's possible that I have lyme disease without any further symptoms? Spider bite maybe?
Oh by the way how much would a test cost? If I went to any doctor for a test would he know which lyme disease doctors to turn to?

Why would you suddenly decide that you needed a lyme test if you don't have any symptoms? Sorry, I don't understand that part of your question.
In my opinion if you had a bite 4 or 5 years ago and you have had no symptoms, getting tested seems unusual.

That's my point. I have no idea of the progression of lyme disease but people here do. Since I can't explain the bite on my back, I'm covering my bases and hopefully someone tells me it's impossible to have lyme disease for this long without symptoms. I seem to have that answer so thanks for the replies.

boomer51, I am sorry to tell you that lyme can be dormant for years. I had embedded tick removed by ER 20 years ago. They gave me 2 wks. of amoxicillin at that time... needless to say, app. 5 years later when my Dad became ill with brain tumor, I began with neurol. symptoms. MDs in Mass. said stress! I wish I had been tested then, just never occurred to me.
In 2007, after 25 doctors, thousands in tests over the years, and complete disability, lyme test was done thru Quest and both Elisa and Western Blot were positive. My Blue Cross covered costs, no questions asked. I cannot stress enough that lyme can remain dormant until a life changing event occurs.

Just ran back into this thread. I had serious lyme lay dormant for 9 years throughout my youth. Get tested.

If it is truly dormant a antibiotic challenge may make it be seen better.
I do believe many people who are diagnosed with Alzheimers in later years is because of this dormancy in some people.
If you have invaders in your body- the body will try to fix it and may form a cyst to encapsulate it.
This has been exhibited by many parasitic entities in the brain, bones, and muscles.
This is what I believe happens in Alzheimers. You get older-the body's immune system breaks down
for whatever reason and the cyst degrades
and wa la you are losing your mind to a bacteria they can't find-
they deduce it's old age and stick you in a nursing home.
