So...on day 15 of 400 mg of Doxy. I know it is the drug of choice. But I hate the "avoid the sun" side effect. I live in a beach town and have 2 young children who want to be outside. I hate having to wear long sleeves on days like today when it will be 80 degrees.

I know that some, like TF, have gotten well on Amoxy with Probenecid instead of Doxy. I also see Burrascano recommends this.

I'm considering asking my LLMD to switch to Amoxy w/ Probenecid for the summer. My questions are:

-Do you think this is wise?
-Will Amoxy work as well as Doxy?

--------------------
Bite date ?
2/10 symptoms began
5/10 dx'd, after 3 months numerous test and doctors

IgM Igenex +/CDC +
+ 23/25, 30, 31, 34, 41, 83/93

Currently on:

Currently at around 95% +/- most days.

Amox with Probenecid is good. But just realize that Amox treats one form of Lyme (the form with a cell wall) and Doxycycline treats the intracellular form (aka the L form).

So if you wanted to hit both of those forms at once, you could do something like Amoxicillin with Zithromax or Amoxicillin with Biaxin. (Zith and Biaxin hit the intracellular form like Doxy).

You could maybe even add Probenecid to one of those two combos, as long as it doesn't interact with Zith or Biaxin.

But if the question is, "will Amoxy work as well as Doxy?" I would say it depends on the person. But either way, you wanna cover as many forms as possible, so I'd be doing combo therapy either way.

I did Amox the first month and then added Zith to it for the next 2 months. I felt the combo helped some of my symptoms..

--------------------
First Symptom 9/09
Multiple docs, negative Labcorp test
LLMD: 1/10
Positive Igenex/CDC test
Treatment 2/10
2/10-8/10 Amox, ceftin, zith, flagyl
Currently: Bicillin, Minocycline, still dealing with severe breathing issues

Also, Amox and Doxy are not usually prescribed together (Though sometimes they are). In case you were wondering why I didn't suggest that combo when I talked about combo therapy, and instead mentioned Zith or Biaxin with the Amox.

Hig dose amoxi w/probenecid is good, especially doing the summer. You can always switch back to doxy in the fall.

Im not 100% symptom free but do 3000 mg Amoxil with probenecid... Laid on the beach last weekend and all I got was a nice tan.

Amoxil also has really helped with the brain fog...

Im only on amoxil I prefer the one drug as long as im getting better. If something changes I will bring it up with my LLMD
