I think that each time you start up the zith again, you are herxing. You are getting sick 2 days after starting a "new" med. That, to me, says "herx."

When my doc added flagyl to the antibiotic I was used to taking, I herxed on the second or third day. That is the normal amount of time it takes to herx.

So, when you get sick, look back to two or 3 days before and ask, "What new thing did I do starting on that date?" That will give you the answer as to what is "making you sick" as they call it.

Here's where Burrascano says it takes 2 to 3 days:

"Several days after the onset of appropriate antibiotic therapy, symptoms often flare due to lysis of the spirochetes with release of increased amount of antigenic material and possibly bacterial toxins. This is referred to as a Jarisch Herxheimer-like reaction. Because it takes 48 to 72 hours of therapy to initiate bacterial killing, the Herxheimer reaction is therefore delayed. This is unlike syphilis, in which these reactions can occur within hours." p. 17

48 hours is 2 days and 72 hours is 3 days.

Not sure what kind of lingering effects you are talking about. I took Flagyl 1 months straight with no lingering effects.

I agree that maybe the zith is causing a herx.

Conversely if one takes abx and within 2-3 days with no herx, is that a confirmation that the person has no Lyme? I am still confused with this.

wtl, the converse does not hold true.

I took antibiotics for 2 years without a herx. But, I was just taking one med at a time.

I had a lot of improvement in those 2 years without herxes. (I definitely had lyme disease for those 2 years--positive through LabCorp and all the symptoms.)

When I switched to a doc who treated me with high-dose amoxi (which I had been taking) AND added flagyl, I had my first herx.

So, evidently if we just kill off smaller doses of germs that our body can handle, no herx.

When we kill large amounts that we cannot get rid of right away, we have the herx. As Burrascano says, it occurs when there is an "INCREASED amount of antigenetic material and possibly bacterial toxins."

Know also that herxes are not just occurring in people being treated for lyme disease. They occur in other diseases also.

Wikipedia lists typhoid fever, syphilis and other diseases (including spirochetal infections and babs and bart) as causing herxes:

Thank you, TF. My wife had seen the doctor you recommended. I will PM you now to let you know how it went.

Sorry for stealing the thread for a brief moment. I was just dying to ask the question.
