I recently bought The Lyme Diet book. Nothing ground breaking, fairly basic things I already knew....but stil informative, expecially for someone who knows little about nutrition, etc.

I think it's a good book. It reinforces the basics but it also explains why certain foods are good for us without being too scientific.

I think it's a great book to have around to reference when I'm not eating well.

Also, this is my ND so I know that she knows what she is talking about.

Thanks for bringing this up!

I had a LL professional suggest this book, but am pretty well-informed about nutrition overall and Candida-control diets, too. If not for my focus on optimal nutrition, I'd have become completely disabled a decade ago.

I gotta be frugal and keep expenditures to a minimum so I can get the most effective treatments before I'm a penniless ward of some State.

Surely Healing Lyme by LL herbalist S.H.B. is a must so we can highlight and re-read our own beloved copy while continuing to absorb the tremendous amount of important information he shares...

Ms. Weintraub's writing is excellent and Cure Unknown is a gift that keeps on giving...

And many rave about The Lyme Disease Solution by Dr. S...

What have others thought of The Lyme Diet: Nutritional Strategies for Healing from Lyme Disease ? Good for newbies?

Which books would you rank as the top 3 or 4 "must haves" for those with the LD Complex seeking long-term remission and/or their caregivers & friends who wish to stay healthy long-term?

A lot of the diets contradict each other though. Dr. S says different things than the Dr who wrote the Lyme Diet.

The thing that bothers me about the Lyme Diet is it seems she assumes one is not taking antibiotics according to her menu items. In one chapter she talks about antibiotics and anticandida...but then in her sampke menus its a different story so it is confusing there what she is getting at.

I have the hardest time eating nothing but meat, veggies and that's about it. I lose so much weight and feel weak and tired.

I like the Lyme Disease Solution for a reference. If I could choose any doctor to see, I would see Dr. S..

Cure unknown is more of a story with some science and politics in it.

I've heard Healing Lyme is great and I will be adding it to my collection.

I have not finished The Lyme Diet so I can't comment on that richedie. It seems to always promote anti-yeast which is often for people on antibiotics. All I know is I am eating Suarkraut now. Before you couldn't pay me to eat Suarkraut (sp). [Wink]

I buy Bubbies brand. It does not have sugar and it is natural. In CA we have a store called Sprouts. I'm sure you could find it at most health food stores.

Sorry you're having a hard time with our limited food choices. Can you eat quinoa, buckwheat kasha, corn products, almonds and walnuts? Guacamole is a healthy fat we can enjoy before meals or as a snack...

Here are two books i've opened often over years to give me ideas for healthy food choices:

* Gail Burton's Candida Control Cookbook: What You Should Know and What You Should Eat to Manage Yeast Infections is quite good. Recommended by my acupuncturist, it helped me immensely.

Several recipes from Burton's book became favorite meals for my family and are suitable for company. Her Chicken & Broccoli Delight [lick] is excellent for picnics and parties (esp if you can eat walnuts!). Chicken Cutlets Italiano is very good... Sunny Corn Muffins and Oat & Orange Muffins are good, too. The Oat & Orange Muffins travel well on outings. Her Round Caraway Bread (rice flour & soy milk, etc.) is a special treat, like a dense cake. I love it warm from the oven with butter. Nut Butter Cookies (made with almond butter, brown rice flour, pecans, etc.) are a good dessert option, too.

* The Midlife Miracle Diet: When Your Diet Doesn't Work Anymore... by Adele Puhn, M.S., C.N.S. is clear & very helpful for curbing carb cravings and understanding what to eat when fro B, L, D, and healthy snacks.

Have you looked at the "The Moosewood Cookbook" and others by Mollie Katzen? You can find them through your local library system. It's not gluten-free, but all vegetarian recipes from a popular restaurant by Cornell Univ. There's a lot of ethnic diversity in the Moosewood recipes and Katzen's style is friendly & fun.
