I'm going to ask my doctor for some antifungals, I have to try this the "proper" way. I'm sure my doctor--not being an LLMD--would appreciate some recommendations as far as what works for other patients who are undergoing treatment for Lyme, and even otherwise, she is aware of my immune system problems. I've been browsing the previous posts and found that many of you get similar dosages of medications!
Can those of you who've been on antifungal therapy tell me if these look okay to show her, as far as what your LLMDS recommend?
* Mycostatin (Nystatin): For gastrointestinal candida; easy on liver; safe for long time use, some even take the entire time of being on antibiotics 500,000 U tablets, not the liquid 2 tabs, three times a day * Clotrimazole troche (mycelex losenges) for oral candida one losenge, five times a day, for 14 days * For systemic problems, Diflucan 200mg 2x a day, for one week
Thank you

For systemic problems, also try ketoconazole. It is a little harder on the gi, but targets different fungi. If your problem is severe, may need to be on anti-fungals for months. In that case, good idea to monitor hepatic functions regularly. You can rotate between different anti-fungals and use both rx and natural products.

Thank you, Tonglen. I'm not severe rigtht now, just.. persistent. Mild-moderate, but very persistent. Thanks for the warning, already on two natural killers and planning on "mixing it up" with some caprylic acid soon, too

You can try some oil of oregano too. If you have vaginal problems, you can try boric acid suppositories. Google it, lots of info.

Thank you, BackinStOlaf. I don't think there is enough money in the world to make me stick boric acid UP THERE, but I've been on oil of oregano for two months. It is mildly effective, and I'm on a strong enough dose to be causing problems with my iron! But it's just not clearing it up. How annoying. =(
If anyone has anymore recommendations on the dosing, or what their LLMD suggested if/when THEY had a candida proble, it would be very much appreciated. I know you are out there!

Elizabeth,
I felt the same way as you. I suffered with infections down there for 10 years. Last year I had 6! Since using the boric acid, not ONE infection. I would really consider it if you are having an issue. Even the best gyno in NYC recommended it to my friend.

If you're on antibiotics, then one week of Diflucan may not do very much. Many take them for a month at a time.
And yes, you will have die-off. The die-off will be less if you will follow a no sugar, no white food diet while doing this. I would suggest continuing on the diet the whole time you are on antibiotics.
You may not need the lozenges unless you have the yeast in your mouth or throat.

Elisabeth, Andy in the Lyme chatroom told us that Integrative Therapeutics Phytostan cleared up his yeast in a matter of weeks.
His doctor suggested this after several prescriptions failed to work. He was annoyed, saying why didn't the doctor start with the Phytostan.

Nystatin did pretty much NOTHING for me and I think many will agree. Diflucan is highly recommended for systemic yeast, and plus, it is believed to have an inhibitory effect on the lyme spirochete.
Cumanda has worked for keeping my oral thrush at bay if I apply it on site, it is also supposed to be a powerful anti-fungal, anti-candida herb (no affiliation)

Elizabeth, looks like you have a great list going there. They all are very good. I have been on all but the Clotrimazole troche and to be honest I think that the Diflucan worked the best. I had to take it for much longer than one week though but I am very severe. Next I will go to VFend as I have major issues.
The list you have is great to show her.

Thank you VERY much jenny, just in time, too, because I see the doctor on Monday

Elizabeth, I never had yeast infections until after I began abx treatment for Lyme in 2005.
I am sending you a PM anyway...
I had two LLMD's and both prescribed the usual...including Diflucan. There were brief respites of relief but not long lasting.
Even after my last round of abx April 2009, I continued having yeast infections until this year when I began a different product. It is the only thing that has worked for me,
"Yeast Ease (TM)", now I have no symptoms. "Yeast Ease (TM)" can be used in various ways--by mouth, topically, etc.
I've added a link to the website where I purchase it. This link is to the info page of the product I use. However, you will notice a tab to the left titled "Yeast Infections" for other products and details.
