Is it possible to feel better but not have bad herxing? I'm on Ceftriaxone for 7 weeks now with a PICC. I have headaches occassionally but that's it. My energy is sooo much better and my legs are almost back to full strength. My arms still are very weak. I was dxd with ALS in Feb, does this mean I don't have ALS if I"m better? Or is the Ceftriaxone inhibiting glutemate and I'll get sick again when I go off the meds?

A herx is highly over-rated and really best to avoid as it is very hard on the body - so I'd just say "great."

Enjoy progress. As for after treatment, you have many months to go (maybe even a year or more, depending on how long you've been ill and what kinds of other tick-borne infections are involved).

If you have a good ILADS-educated LLMD, you will likely do well considering the wonderful progress you are having to date.

ALS is very often lyme (or other stealth infection). I'd say your progress certainly speaks to your having been misdiagnosed before lyme was found to be key.

As you rotate treatment, it may not always be so easy, so you are not necessary home free but it is magnificent that you are enjoying such progress.

Yes, it is possible to feel better and not have bad herxing.

I only had one herx during my entire lyme treatment. I felt bad for about 3 days and half bad for 4 more. It wasn't anything to write home about.

But, each time your meds are changed, you can feel worse for a while before you feel better again. So, don't be alarmed when it happens.

If you really still think you have ALS, you owe it to the world to tell the ALS docs how to make the ALS patients feel better. Tell them your treatment. They don't know about it.

Seriously, it would be great if you let the doc who diagnosed you with ALS know that you are feeling better with lyme treatment. Maybe it will teach him something and it will save the next patient like you the agony of being told they have ALS.

I agree with the above posts. You have a long road to go but it is WONDERFUL that you are feeling better! Write it down, really feel it, remember it..and let your other doctors know.
Enjoy your day, and I am very happy for you.

I forgot to add that I have never had really strong/bad herxes with treatment, so yes, you can feel better without the herx.
